He didn't mean for it to happen...any of this. It wasn't supposed to happen like this. She wasn't supposed to find out.

'I messed up real bad' was all he kept thinking as he walked slowly through the neighbourhood, hitting his shoes off the gravel as he went. He knew he was going to get caught before he even went through with it, but he still did. He knew what would happen, he knew that she would know. He had learnt that he could never get anything through the door and up into his bedroom in the attic without being questioned.

Whenever he left the house, she told him she loves him, because she never knew if he'd  make it home or not. This time he knew something had changed, she didn't say she loved him when he trudged out the door on his way to school this particular morning.

If only she could tell her son she loved him, one last time. Then maybe he wouldn't have done what he did.
