It's been a few months since I found out what really lives within me but this has been really hard to keep secret. Recently we have been racing each other for P.E, everyone one from primary school knows that I run as fast as a ... snail, but when we raced I decided to go to the easy race against other, not so confident runners. That's when the changes began to strengthen, I sprinted as fast as I could once I heard the horn, it scared me so I just wanted to run away fear rose within me, I remember one of my teachers telling me 'it's harder to lose than win' I thought about that for a second and I didn't want to be known as the slow coach for another (what feels like an eternity) set of school years! I ran and ran, starting to run out of breath but suddenly a power cut, rapidly the lights vanished no one could see anything but in under 10 seconds I was at the end of the race, the lights had just turned on after that and everyone was left speechless. The teacher came and grabbed me, that really reminded me of when Dan grabbed me, I shivered as she yanked me across the room and put me in a harder race with the second fastest group. I guess I was running in that race then, but my arch nemesis was in that race, she hates me she would do anything to get ahead of me. Oh no! What am I going to do?
"Well, Well, well look what we have here the slow poke from primary," she pauses as she waits for everyone to burst with laughter "I wonder how you finished the race so quickly, did you just run across the hall!"
My geeky in-stinks began to kick in.
" That's a rhetorical question!" I quickly covered my mouth with my sweaty palms, but luckily I caused more people to laugh then Jessie, she was not happy about that everyone knew that.
Everyone started heading to the starting line I took the hard lane, what an idiot I am, the race begun and I was running, well jogging then I ran. Jessie started nudging me which then turned to pushing me which was then knocking me over. The race stopped as the teacher (Mrs Mal) blew her extremely loud horn.
" Jessie your disqualified from this race for sabotaging another person, that's a detention for you!" She yelled at the top of her voice as Jessie coward down. The race was taken again this time I got a better lane. The horn gave me a fright again so I ran so quickly my vampire speed didn't have much an affect but, I beat everyone by a mile, well a quarter of the track, they all were panting as I stood their tall and proud with my breath restored as Mrs Mal congratulated me. I saw Jessie in the corner of the room rolling her eyes at me as the rest of the class ganged together and started talking about me, I think, this is the most popular I have ever been! My best friend Grace was being a personal little cheerleader chanting her own tune, I actually really enjoyed it but then again I have to she's my best friend.
"Bryn, go Bryn, Bryn, go Bryn, I know that you can win!" She kept on singing that over and over but she is an awesome singer I absolutely love her voice. She sounds magnificent. If only other people noticed that.
The teacher came storming up to me again but this time pulled me by the ear all the way up to reception. "Please could you call Bryns parents because she is feeling ill!" She yelled, as the reception ladies shuffled away from her. She came up to me, and told me that this isn't right that I shouldn't be able to run so fast that apparently it's impossible but she used much stronger words than that! I didn't understand what the problem was, why did I have to go home as if I was ill why couldn't I just stay here with the rest of the school?
Finally, someone arrived for me, but it wasn't my parents it was Dan, he came up to me and said to run as fast as I could out of the school.
"Bryn," he whispered "I diverted the call for your parents to me, so they don't know that you are not home but this school isn't safe for you. Your powers are going to ruin your reputation for many lessons. I'm not safe and neither are you." I could feel my teeth trembling, but then again it could be the pigeons squawking above me.
" Where shall we go then, because if we aren't safe here I am definitely not safe at my own house with my overprotective parents?"
"Well that means your going to have to come with me but don't tell anyone." He squeaked. I nodded my head vigorously trying to show him that I am ok with it but it is hard to tell whether or not he understands for some reason. I thought that he would just nod back or something but he actually asked me what it was and I got very confused. Maybe he was exhausted or something like that and couldn't remember. I'm not sure but it's ok not to know everything I guess. But something so simple as a head jester is weird to forget, don't you think?
Dan took me to this tree house near the bus stop I take, I never noticed it before but how it is right across the road from the bus stop.
"This is where I saw it," he began as my inconclusive facial expressions changed in seconds "it was on the floor in the corner, right their." He pointed "it was in a cloak, as black as night, blood trickling down him, squishing what had been behind him, he yelled at me, trying to scare me off, I wish I had ran away but what was lying behind him gave me the instinct to want to collapse with sadness. My parents, right their underneath him, their body's were as cold as Antarctica and as hard as rock I hoped for the best but only the worst had come. They had perished!" He left me clueless.
