After a year of chemo the cancer had finally ended. The burns, the long nights of throwing up, the pain. Its all gone. Finally a normal life. I could go to school, hang out with my friends Wake up and not worry if I'll ever get to lay in my bed again. If only my mother had been given the same chance.
She was my only parent but when I was only seven years old breast cancer claimed her life.
Stealing her from me.
With nowhere to go I was forced into an orphanage. After sitting in the same orphanage day after day, month after month, year after year, I was adopted at the age of 12. When Mark and Katie Lander adopted me a little bit of light appeared in my life.
After only a few weeks I felt like I was actually their son. That small light was now shingling as bright as the sun. Although a part of me was always stuck in a dark place.
It had been 2 years and even tho I had everything I needed I felt so alone. So abandoned. No matter how much I tried there was a gaping hole in me. A hole unable to be filled. Nobody could know about the emptiness I felt.
But I changed.
Everything I had been hiding was now who I was. After finding out I had a tumor in my brain I wasn't me anymore. I couldn't contain my anger. Why would God kill my mom and now possibly me. It didn't seem fair
I'm immediately rushed into the operating room. I feel my heart racing. Chills race from my head to my toes as the sweat pours down my face. Soon a mask goes over my face. Within a few seconds I begin to feel my eyes cross. The voices of the surgeons echo.
Darkness
Hello? Is anyone there?
I can't hear anything. As I keep walking through the darkness a wooden door appears.
The doors are very old and stand several stories tall. As I enter the passage i can feel my heart beating out of my chest.
"Wesley" I heard a voice cry out
A voice strangely similar
A voice so smooth and comforting
Almost immediately after hearing it I can't help but smile.
Could it really be?
"Mom?" I reply "is it you"
As I turned around a warm breeze and bright light hit me. The most spectacular of sights I have ever seen.
A garden
Trees, hills, and a small river flowing through. And in the middle of it all stood a tall beautiful woman.
Very familiar.
She opened her arms
My eyes already filling with tears I ran towards her with outstretched arms.
Right before the warm embrace I had longed for the last 8 years everything gone and I found myself alone again in the darkness
Unable to process what had just happened my legs gave out. The pain too strong.
"What just happened" I asked myself
Burying my face in my hands and tears pouring out the gaps between my fingers.
Why.
Heavy breathing behind me startled me back Into reality. I jolted forward and in a panicked hurry I stumbled to get up.
As I turned around to face the direction at which I just heard the sounds I saw nothing.
I walked forward a few steps and out of nowhere I began falling.
