Three Months Earlier

He's insane. I thought as I walked along side my best friend Nico. I held my schoolbooks in my arms with my backpack hanging over my shoulder, why I kept an empty backpack on my shoulder was still a mystery to me. I guess it made me feel safe. Anyways, Nico was blabbering on about the apocalypse, which he was always talking about. Soooo annoying. But he was my best friend so I still loved him for it.

"All Im saying is it's going to happen soon." He said after finishing his rant. I rolled my eyes and walked out the school doors towards my car in the parking lot. Thank God it's the weekend. I thought as I got in the drivers seat and Nico got in the passengers seat, we go to this park every friday. Again, a mystery. I started driving, something was tense about Nico though, his muscles were locked and his eyes were piercing through his glasses, continually glancing at the sky. I decided to ignore him, he got like this alot. I had never asked him why though, thinking it would be rude, but i've always been curious. Today, he was jumpier than usual. I sat in silence at the stop light, my fingers tapping to the beat of the music on the steering wheel. I risked another glance at Nico and he was unbuckling his seatbelt then jumped out of the car. I was in shock then parked the car and got out chasing after him, getting some foul words and honks from the cars behind me but I kept running. Since when is he, the scrawny guy who always skips gym class, so fast? When I finally caught up to him he was inside an old looking building, common in California but still strange. I hesitantly opened the door with a creak and stepped inside to see a bunch of strong looking teenage guys in muscle shirts stranding around a table with a map with markings on it. As soon as I took a step forwards every single one of their heads turned to me. I stared at the strongest looking one and couldnt believe my eyes. I traced my eyes down his body looking at every perfectly shaped muscle and his ruffled blonde hair, he was wearing camo pants and a black muscle tank top like all the others with dog tags hanging from his neck, and dark sunglasses shielding his eyes. I snapped out of staring at him when a pair of calloused hands grabbed my arms tightly from behind. A harsh voice speaking to the other men.

"Why did you let this girl in?" The voice spoke, obviously a man.

"Sir, she just walked in. We couldnt-" One of the men started but was immediately shut up by the guy holding me throwing me against him. I winced, This guy's like a wall. The guy I ran into grabbed me by my arms and sharply pulled me up, almost giving me whiplash. "Sorry sir." He spoke firmly. When I finally opened my eyes to look at the guy who threw me I gasped loudly. I knew him. I know that skinny figure, those dark eyes and matching hair, and the same jeans and band t-shirt he was wearing ten minutes ago when I chased after him. He was the same guy who I've known since I was four, the one who played with me during and after school and has been my best friend ever since I spilled apple juice on his head in pre-school. The guy who has always been jumpy around everyone, and me. The same guy who had been my only friend throughout the middle and freshman years of school. The only person in my life i've ever trusted, just shoved me.

"N-Nico?" I whispered. He turned to me and nodded.

"Hello Emmy. You shouldnt be here." He replied.
