alex's breath catches when he automatically responds with "hi babe!"

john embraces him, and peggy shoots him a glance. alex stands like a statue.

jefferson, madison, and burr keep walking, clearly not having any of it. maria stops to kiss peggy before quickly shuffling after the trio.

"how are you?" laurens smiles at alexander, as if it had all been just a dream.

"i have, i..." alexander lets a single tear slip down his cheek. "i have somewhere to be."

alexander pushes past john, head down. he hopes nobody can see the tears falling. his pace quickens, and he hears peggy yell his name.

alexander doesn't look back.

authors note:// DAMN its been a long time since ive seen y'all. im sorry for not updating since november, I wasn't really sure where i was going with this story?? but i think ive kinda got it back on track,, anyway here's a double update as a belated christmas gift because i love y'all.
