Betrayal. Regret. Crushed hope.

Just the feeling of emptiness, not unlike staring out at the pitch black abyss of a clouded ocean horizon at night. This was all he knew. The only way to keep the dark from inching any closer was to push away. Push far away, anyone who would come near, and potentially stab his back as he had felt so many times before. Scare them. Make them hurt. It was complicated enough with all the dark thoughts that pained him, from the light of day to the quiet hours of night. Did he honestly know the truth of anything that had happened to him? Was he a horrible person? Why was he even alive? These were the only things he could think of. His whole being felt like darkness incarnate. Questions. Anxiety. Cold. Loneliness. Numbness to anything but pain. It was as if he was standing in cold sand in that dark region somewhere, completely alone, the only sound a rhythmic crashing of waves, unable to see anything but darkness-

The sensation of a hand on his shoulder broke him from his thoughts. He was about to feign annoyance and yell at whoever had tried to touch him, but stopped halfway when he opened his eyes.

Her.

"Saeran...? You didn't look okay.. so... I just wanted to ask if you were alright-..." She fumbled over her words, as he stared at her with a confused expression.

Yet when his eyes met the dark blue orbs in front of him, he couldn't find it in himself to force malice into his gaze. That strange feeling that seemed to chase away darkness pooled up in his chest. It was so foreign; strange, and he couldn't quite place it. Just her eyes could leave him frozen in place. But he was sure it wasn't fear that held him there, no, the memories of being tied up by his mother, of being tortured at Magenta could attest to the fact that this was very different.

---------------------

She was determined. He always pushed her away and did things to intentionally hurt or scare her, but she saw how he would never go as far as to physically threaten her. She saw that it never met his eyes, like now. She didn't quite understand how she fell in love so deeply with him already. But every time she heard him crying in his room at night ever since he was brought back to Saeyoung's place, every time she heard him yell while confined by his nightmares, and the way he would stare longingly at the sky, made her feel that need to help him even more.

He's not bad.

He's just lost.

He needs someone.

---------------------

He didn't reply to her, but instead focused on those eyes, that eased his anxiety. God, how did she have this effect on him? He shouldn't trust her. What if she hurt him too? But she was so persistent. Part of him was annoyed that she kept coming back to him, asking mundane things, her fingers brushing his, or the short eye contact she'd make with him. Why was she so hard to keep away...? But then again, part of him enjoyed it. He'd never admit it, but those short moments made that strange feeling come back- that felt like small bits of light at that dark ocean.
