Hello there! Thank you so much for reading this. This is an original story I have been planning to write for a long time. If you like this story, or even if you don't, please share it with a friend or two who might like it. If you do, I will be very grateful, as I am unsure about the response it will get. Sorry it's quite short, btw...

Song on the side is P!nk's F**kin' Perfect (clean radio edit) which, in part, inspired my to write this story

Anyway, enough with the chit-chat.

Enjoy,

I was 24 when it happened. I was walking through the park when I saw her sitting on a bench by herself. Her pale blue eyes were fixated on nothing in particular. I watched how her orange, curly hair flew out behind her in the wind and how her fringe poked out from underneath her straw hat. She looked lost.

I walked over to the old, green bench and sat down next to her.

"Hello," I said softly. She didn't say anything. "Are you lost?"

She turned her head quickly and stared at me.

"Lost," she whispered.

I nodded. "I'm Adrian Carlson." I extended my hand in offer of a handshake, but all she did was stare at my hand cautiously. I sighed and dropped it.

"Emmeline," she replied. "Emmeline Davies. My name."

"Your name is Emmeline?"

She nodded sharply. "Don't know where I am. Don't know where I should be."

I nodded. She was lost and doesn't know why.

I talked to her for a few more minutes and came to a few conclusions: Her name was Emmeline Davies, she was 23, she has no idea where she is or why she's there, she has no possessions with her and she doesn't remember anything else.

"I should take you to the police. We can see if they can find your family."

Emmeline nodded. "Find my family. Don't know faces."

I stood up and held out my hand to help her up. She took my hand warily and stood up.

"We may as well go now since neither of us have anywhere to be," I said with a smile. She smiled softly in return.

We arrived at the local police department and we were greeted by an officer named Ian Brandon.

"What seems to be the problem?" asked Officer Bandon.

I glanced over to Emmeline who was looking all around the room. I turned back to Officer Brandon.

"This is Emmeline. I found her in the park. She's lost and doesn't remember anything. Not where she lives, her parents, anything. And she has nothing with her to give any idea either."

Officer Brandon nodded. "We can put out a report and try to find her family. In the mean time, she will be taken to a nearby hospital where she will be monitored and will go through some therapy to see if she can't get her memory back."

"Maybe that's not the best idea..." I mumbled.

"And why is that?" asked the officer, raising an eyebrow.

I looked over to Emmeline, suggesting he did too. At the mention of hospitals, Emmeline's head had snapped over to glare at Officer Brandon and she had latched onto my arm, gripping it tightly. She clearly had some memory of hospitals, and it wasn't a good one.

Officer Brandon sighed. "If she is going to refuse to go to a hospital, we will have to find some other institution to take her."

"I can look after her," I suggested. "I have a spare room a my house. She can stay there." I glanced at her again. "She seems to trust me so far."

He nodded. "It's an idea, but are you sure you can look after her?"

I nodded in response. "Yeah. I've looked after people before."

He still looked a little unconvinced but sighed an agreed. "Ok. You can take her home."

I smiled and Emmeline relaxed.

That was the day my life changed forever.
