I'm the mirror that she looks in
I see the things she sees
I show her a reflection
And she screams at what she sees
I wish she would stop
Stop waking me up in the middle of the night
Crying while looking at herself in me
Yelling, screaming, lowering her self-esteem
Constantly checking her weight and measuring her waist
Eating but then forcing the food back up
I could tell that she didn't like doing it
You could see the pain in her sad eyes
It was almost like you were there with her
Feeling the burning coming up and out your throat
Society makes her feel like she needs to change
She tells herself daily that she is as fat as an elephant
FAT! FAT! FAT!
She screams this to herself
While she prepares for the next day
She feels as if there is no one there to wash the pain away
No one to help
No one to see
No one to hear
She screams to herself as if there is nothing left to do
I show her what she gives me
But she hates it when I do
She clenches her first and raises it at me
BANG! BANG! BANG!
She's punching out her feelings
Trying to get rid of what's on me
She hates the way she looks
She hates it all because of me
Here I am showing her the truth
When all she sees is her biggest fears
It makes me want to cry when I see her like this
Tears running in sync with hers
She shouldn't think the way she does
The words she screams at herself are enough to break my ears
Running her fingers along her scars and realising how strong she has become
She takes another look in me
She doesn't scream
She doesn't cry
She doesn't hate what she sees
Instead a smile wipes across her face
She has begun to realise
To win this battle that you're facing
You have to love the body you're in
She once had no heart or self-love
Now she has a heart of gold
