I remember when I first moved my body. It was a cold world and didn't know why I left the last. So, with all my tiny might, I screamed and cried as loud as I could. I kept screaming and crying until I was handed over to someone with a caring smile. It soothed my crying as she rocked me gently. Looking up, she had some of my features. It was like we were related.
Over four years, I learned to grow strong, draw with my hand and not my mouth, crawl and cause a bit of mischief. As time went on, I discovered that my freedom would soon be left as a distant memory.
There were others. All different. There were tall ones with things pinned to the left side of the chest. The others were playing games, talking, laughing and having fun with each other. The person whom had taken care of me for the past years, gave me a sweet smile and left me here, in a completely foreign world. A loud ringing noise pounded through the area and everyone else walked up in a line formation. I was the only one standing out from the crowd. What am I supposed to do? Whispers whirled all around me – about me. They looked scared. All of a sudden one of the really tall people thundered their way towards me and shouted.
'Young lady! I know that you're new but in this world it's learn quick or don't learn at all! Also known as using initiative – now get in line!'
Running to the end of the line, everyone just looked at me. That hardly helped me on my first day. I thought the others were supposed to be kind and helpful. My look-alike said that it would be fun here. Not one for doubting her but if this is the fun that she meant, then maybe this place isn't for me.
By the time the hours of being here were over, drops of water were threatening to fall. Thankfully, they didn't. I am unwilling to crumble under the weight of somebody's command because I'm not doing what they say exactly. Surely that's being plain bossy right?
