Coraline winced as her cut began to bleed garnet red. The blood dribbled down her arm and dripped onto the ground. She felt a release from the tears she was shedding. She kept telling herself to stop this, but if it was working, why should she? She liked the pain she felt from her arm. And it wasn't like she was actually gonna kill herself, she cut too high to hit the blood vessel that would bleed out and kill her... So there was no harm, right? Well that's always what Coraline reassured herself on. As she watched the blood drip slowly onto the floor, she thought of all the names she remembered being called since forever and the aching in her heart grew worse. She wiped away her tears and sniffled as she cleaned up the blood off her arm so her parents wouldn't freak out. She sighed after she finished cleaning up and quietly walked back to her bedroom. She climbed in her bed and pulled the warm, gray covers around her, holding in the rest of her tears until her face was buried under her covers. There was a knock at the door. "Caroline? Honey breakfast's ready," she took a deep breath and got out of her bed. "Coming," she said and went to pull on a sweatshirt and cozy yoga pants. She climbed down the stairs quickly and approached where her mom had left the food to serve herself. "Morning freak," her big sister Lacey said. She winced. "Lacey Elizabeth Turner do NOT call your sister a freak," her mom said. "But that's what she is! I'm just stating the truth! She doesn't have any friends, she only wears black and grey, and she never pays attention in class, she just sits there and doodles on herself. Everyone at school thinks she's a weirdo!" Lacey argued. "I do have friends," Coraline said quietly. "Those two freaks you call friends? Those two are weirder than you!" Lacey said harshly. "That's it... Lacey you say something mean to your sister one more time and you're grounded," Coralines mom said sternly. "Ooooo Wacey's in twouble!" Coralines baby sister Natalie said and her baby brother Nathan giggled. Lacey rolled her eyes. "Whatever, Coraline isn't worth my time anyways," with that she got up from the table and went back upstairs. Coraline stiffly sat down in Lacey's seat and slowly ate her breakfast. "Cawoline!" Nathan said happily and pointed at her. Coraline smiled and her mom shook her head and smiled. "Nathan honey her name is Coraline, Cor-a-line," her mother said sweetly. "It's fine mom, he won't get it for a while," Coraline said and shrugged, finishing her eggs and grits. Her mom shrugged. "He won't learn though if we don't ever correct him so I wanna correct him to get the right name," she said. Coraline nodded as she walked over and put her dish in the sink. "Coraline honey, will you go make sure your brother is awake and getting ready? He never came down," Coraline nodded and headed upstairs. She walked to her brothers door and knocked. "What?!" Her brother called from the other side of the door. Coraline rolled her eyes. "Mom said to go down and eat breakfast Carter," she called through the door. The door opened enough for her brother to slip his head out. He looked at her and said. "Okay, I'm getting ready... Tell her I said that I'll eat it on the bus," he said. "It's eggs, grits, and sausage... You can't eat it on the bus, plus we're riding in the car" Coraline said. Carter sighed. "Fine... I'll finish my airplane model later," He opened the door and walked through, closing the door behind him. Coraline laughed as her brother went downstairs. She loved her little brother, he was so lively and crazy. She remembered she had to get dressed and rushed to her room, quickly slipping inside. She grabbed some black and white galaxy leggings, a black sweatshirt with a cat on it, and some garnet converse. She put it on, brushed her hair, and grabbed her book bag before heading out of her room. She bumped into Lacey on her way to the stairs. Her sister looked gorgeous as usual with her ombré hair, a blue ombré sweater, ripped blue jeans, her flawless makeup, and some high heeled brown boots. Coraline wished she was as beautiful as her sister, she just had stupid plain dark brown hair, somewhat lighter skin than Lacey, and she was horrible at makeup... She always wore a smoky eye, a lot of eyeliner, and red lipstick, while her sister was always changing it up and looking flawless in her new looks. Lacey scowled at her. "Stop staring freak, we have to go soon go downstairs!" She said, annoyed. Coraline rolled her eyes as her sister happily answered a call from probably her boyfriend. Coraline walked downstairs to see her baby siblings giggling as Carter fed the dog eggo waffles, making him do goofy tricks for them. "Carter, come on... we have to leave soon as soon as Lacey decides to stop being an as*hole and drive us to school," she said, motioning for him to follow her to the door. Her mom gave her a dirty look at her language, but she ignored her. Carter nodded and tossed the dog the last waffle, following Coraline outside. Lacey jumped in front of them on the way out and lead the way to her car, climbing in quickly and finally putting her phone down. Carter bounced happily in the backseat. "Tomorrow we don't have school! It's almost Christmas break!" He cheered. Lacey sighed in relief. "Which means sleeping in for me and not getting asked questions about my emo sister," she said, rolling her eyes at Coraline. "Are you sure they aren't just asking you about the hedgehogs on your face that you call eyebrows?" Coraline retorted. "Oooo burn!" Carter said. She smirked and watched her sister frown and glare at her before looking back at the road. "No, because my eyebrows aren't bushy and at least I know how to do makeup, you look like a raccoon with the amounts of eyeliner you wear," Lacey snapped. Coraline gave her a death glare. "Do not!" She argued. "Yeah ha!" Lacey replied. They argued all the way to drop off Carter and all the way to their school before Coraline jumped out of the car and stormed off in annoyance. She hated her sister so much sometimes. She stormed off all the way to the strings storage room where she stopped in her tracks, not going outside because she heard a voice inside. She smiled lightly. It was her best friend Hope singing. Hope was a beautiful singer, but she never sang around people due to her slight stage fright. Coraline loved to get here early and listen to Hope sing because she thought no one was listening. She slid down to the floor, listening quietly to Hope sing a song she'd helped Coraline write for the talent show that they never performed. She sang along in her head happily until the song ended. She quietly got up and made sounds to where it sounded like she walked in. "Coraline?" Hope called from inside. "Yeah! It's me," Coraline called back and slipped in the storage room where her friend smiled at her.
Hope was gorgeous. Her tan skin fit perfectly with her brown, wavy hair that was offset by her blueish gray eyes. Coraline envied how perfect yet simple her friend was, but she loved Hope dearly. Her self conscious friend was the best. Coraline unzipped her viola out of its case and tuned it while Hope grabbed her cello, playing pieces with ease already. After tuning, they began to play some pieces happily. Coraline loved this time. She got to hang out with her friend and she got to drown out this miserable world with music. But like all things it quickly came to an end. Hope had to leave for class and so did she so they quickly packed up and ran off to class.
The bell ran as Coraline sat down in her desk. "Oh look, the freak's late. Again." Leila snapped from the desk beside her.Coraline frowned at her, but ignored her. Leila used to be Coraline's best friend up until 7th grade. Leila started hanging out with the mean cheerleader girls at school that Coraline liked to call the cheer-fakers. They were nice to people but then they would talk behind their backs in a heartbeat. Leila had hung out with them and was brainwashed into the prettiest, most popular, most mean girl in the school. She had gone from Coraline's best friend to her enemy in a heartbeat. "Did you even hear me freak?" Leila sneered. Coraline looked up in confusion, she wasn't listening. Leila laughed and looked to her two followers. "So now not only are her outfits and makeup horrible, but she's also deaf!" They all laughed. "Probably from all the eyeliner she wears," one of her 'minions' said. "Huh? That doesn't even make sense... at least I have a brain unlike you." She retorted. "Ugh, whatever, come on girls, we're starting something actually interesting today." Leila said and they all turned to the front. Coraline rolled her eyes and turned too to see they were starting Romeo and Juliet. She groaned. This was her least favorite Shakespearean play, but she'd just have to get through it. Coraline didn't even pay attention while the teacher gave roles to each classmate. She'd probably pick Leila for Juliet anyways, as all the good parts to everyone besides her and Coraline was perfectly fine with that. "Coraline... Juliet" the teacher said cheerily and Coraline shot up, staring at her wide eyed and everyone was staring at her in just as much surprise as her if not more. "B-but Miss Snow-" she began. "Nope! I don't want to hear it, you will be Juliet," Miss Snow interrupted her and moved on. Coraline stared at the book, wishing it would disappear forever so she wouldn't have to do this. She could tell it was gonna be a long class.
