Chapter One
Violet Springston
Lightning filled the dark room and thunder crashed. Violet's body jumped violently. She rubbed her tired eyes and looked around. It was still dark outside and the rest of the house was quiet. Rain fell hard against the roof of her home.
She grabbed her phone off the nightstand and looked at the time. "It's 5:15... I guess I could get up now." She whispered to no one but herself.
Flinging her legs over the side of her bed, she stood up. She flipped on her light and began digging through her closet. She finally decided on a cream colored sweater and skinny jeans. With clothes in hand, she went into the bathroom and hopped into the shower.
"I finished all of my assignments last night and they're not due for a few more days. I wonder if L.E needs help with hers..." Violet mumbled. She quickly finished up and stepped out.
Violet looked in the mirror after getting dressed and sighed. She blow-dried her hair and threw it up into a ponytail. She contemplated on leaving it down today but decided against it. The clock read 5:55 and Violet slipped her shoes on. Her phone buzzed in her pocket and she pulled it out.
"You better be awake! I'm on my way, we're going to grab breakfast before school!" L.E texted her.
She smiled at the text. "I'm awake and ready!" She replied.
She slid her phone back into her pocket and put on her jacket. She snatched her bag from her brown desk chair and tip-toed her way down stairs. As she stood on her front porch a chill ran up her spine. She let out a long sigh and her breath became visible in the frigid air. L.E soon arrived and Violet dodged her way around puddles over to the car. She hopped in and smiled.
"It's fucking cold, huh?" L.E said.
Violet nodded her head, causing her blonde ponytail to bob up and down.
"Let's buy a tropical island and live there." Violet said and laughed.
L.E laughed along. "Sounds nice."
The car ride to the restaurant was nothing other than enjoyable. The girls talked, laughed, and sang along to the radio.
After being seated in a comfy booth, the girls eyed their menus. Violet chewed her lip as she looked over the choices. She finally settled on something and looked at L.E.
"You pick something yet?" Violet asked and L.E nodded.
Violet motioned for a waiter to come over.
A tall, dark haired boy walked over to the table. He flashed a dazzling smile. His blue eyes made Violet melt.
"Can I start you ladies off with some drinks?" He spoke. His voice was deep and Violet felt herself swooning.
L.E spoke up first. "I'll have water."The boy jotted down what L.E said and looked over to Violet.
She cleared her throat. "Apple juice, please."
He nodded and wrote more. Violet looked at his name tag. It read 'Tyler.'
"Are we ready to order or do you need another minute?" Tyler asked.
"I'm ready." The girls said simultaneously. They laughed.
"I'll have the French toast breakfast." Violet said.
"Me too!" Said L.E.
"Will that be all?" He said. The girls nodded and he walked away.
Violet couldn't help but stare as he walked away. L.E cleared her throat and grinned at her friend.
"He's a cutie, huh?" Her grin widened.
Violet rolled her eyes and smiled. She pulled a small notebook out of her bag and opened it. Labeling a clean page 'Violet and Lina-Elaine Take Over The World!" and began writing.
She began making a list of things her and L.E wanted to do together in the future.
"1. Travel the world together.
2. Be in each other's weddings.
3. Eat fancy food in different countries."
"Is this really want you want to do with me?" L.E laughed.
"Well, yeah. It sounds fun doesn't it?" Violet's mouth curved into a frown.
"It sounds fun. Don't forget about buying an island." The girls nodded in sync.
There food arrived not long after and the girls ate happily. L.E checked the time on her phone and choked on the food she had stuffed into her mouth.
"Don't you have a test first period? We have to leave right now." She said after swallowing the bite she'd been choking on.
They paid quickly and dashed out of the restaurant. L.E started the car and drove towards the school. Violet turned the heat up and shivered. Checking the clock every so often, she started getting nervous. She'd never been late to school a day in her life and didn't want to start now. A frown formed on her usually smiling face.
She bit her lip in frustration and zoned into her thoughts. They wandered from homework she had finished days before they were even due to the food she had left in the fridge from the day before. She jumped when L.E smacked her arm.
"We're here, hurry up and get out." L.E said and had parked in front of the schools entrance. Violet gave her a soft smile and jumped out of the car. Her walk was fast paced and she continued glancing at her phone throughout the halls. She couldn't believe they spent so much time eating.
Her legs carried her up the stairs to the third floor and she tried to control her breathing. "Man, I'm out of shape." She thought to herself.
Walking down the nearly empty hall quickly she stopped in front of her first period classroom. She took a deep breath and walked in. She took a seat in the back of the class and the bell rang right after. A small smile tugged at the ends of her mouth. The teacher entered the room and began taking attendance. Her voice was nasally and irritated Violet to no end. L.E appeared in front of the door and waved through the small window. Violet grinned and gave her a small wave back. L.E started making stupid faces and Violet was struggling to hold back from laughing.
She cleared her throat and watched L.E walk onto her class.
"Violet Springston?" The teacher said.
"Here." Violet said quietly. The teacher marked something down on a sheet of paper. Afterwards the test was handed out and Violet finished it quickly. She turned it in and sat back in her chair. She always felt awkward being the first one to stand up and turn in a test.
Rain began to fall again and the splattered against the window. She rested her head against her hand and stared at the small drops sliding down the glass. It felt like time had been going by so slowly. After what felt like an eternity, the bell signally class had ended finally rang.
She wasted no time in gathering her things and leaving the bland room. She pulled out her phone and started to send a text to L.E.
Her body suddenly smacked into something tall and hard. She fell backwards and landed on the hard floor.
"Ow..." She mumbled.
"Are you okay? I'm so sorry." A deep voice spoke from above her. Her eyes took a moment to readjust and she looked up. A large hand had been outstretched in her direction. She placed her small hand in the much larger hand and it grasped hers tightly. Her small body was yanked to its feet.
"It's okay. It was my fault." She said quietly. Her face flushed when she realized who she had bumped into. Aydin Kollenway stood right in front of her. Heat rushed to her cheeks and she felt dizzy.
He shook his head. "I'm really sorry. Did you get hurt?" His voice was low and soft. She felt the eyes of her peers piercing into her. Violet shook her head.
"No, I'm fine. I uh, have to go. Sorry again." She spoke quickly and walked around him. Her head was starting to hurt and she felt nauseous. Her day had already gone from good to bad and her gut told her it was only going to get worse.
