I know we get here and we see people with thousands of followers. We want to be their friends. It's like high school all over again. Everyone wants to be friends with the popular kid. We'll write on their walls, send them PM's, comment and vote on their stories in hopes of getting noticed. The truth is, they don't care. Just like in high school, the popular kid would just accept all your compliments and give you nothing in return.
Try looking at others who posted on these profiles. It's surprising how much you can bond over a common obsession. When you connect with a reader who is gushing over the story of your favourite author, the chances of the two of you having something in common are huge. Try small things first, like ask them what they think will happen in the story. Keep them engaged for sometime and then go in for the kill. That's how I came across fallenangel36910, who will now help me edit my books.
You can't do everything alone, accept that and make friends who are critiques/editors. You can always improve and there are people who are willing to help. If someone says something mean, take it positively and do what you do best. Write!
