Jeff's POV:
Next morning, I heard a knock at my front door. I walked down to find two police officers at the door, my mother looking back at me with an angry look. "Jeff, these officers tell me that you attacked three kids. That it wasn't regular fighting, and they were stabbed. Stabbed, son!" my mom told me a little angry. I gaze fell to the floor, showing my mother that it was true. "Mom, they were the ones who pulled the knives on me and Liu." I explained to my mom. "Son," said one of the cops, "We found three kids, two stabbed, one having a bruise on his stomach, and we have witnesses proving that you fled the scene. Now, what does that tell us?" I knew it was no use. I could say me and Liu had been attacked, but then there was no proof it was not them who attacked first.
They couldn't say that they weren't fleeing, but the truth be told they were. So I couldn't defend myself or Liu. "Son, call down your brother." I couldn't do it, since it was me who beat up all the kids. "Sir, it... it was me. I was the one who beat up the kids. Liu tried to hold me back, but he couldn't stop me." I told the cop. The cop looked at his partner and they both nod. "Well kid, looks like a year in Juvy..." the cop told me glazing over to me. "Wait! says Liu. We all looked up to see Liu holding a knife. The officers pulled their guns and locked them on Liu. "It was me, I beat up those little punks. Have the marks to prove it." He lifted up his sleeves to reveal cuts and bruises, as if he was in the struggle.
"Son, just put the knife down," said the officer. Liu held up the knife and dropped it to the ground. He put his hands out and walked over to the cops. "No Liu, it was me! I did it!" I begged Liu to tell the truth with tears running down my face. "Huh, poor bro. Trying to take the blame for what I did. Well, take me away." Liu said the police led Liu out to the patrol car. "Liu, tell them it was me! Tell them! I was the one who beat up those kids!" My mom put her hand on my shoulders. "Jeff please, you don't have to lie. We know it's Liu, you can stop." my mom told me. I watched helplessly as the cop car speeds off with Liu inside. A few minutes later, my dad pulled into the driveway, seeing my face and knowing something was wrong.
"Son, son what is it?" my dad asked me. I couldn't answer. My vocal cords were strained from crying. Instead, my mother walked my father inside to break the bad news to him as I wept in the driveway. After an hour or so I walked back in to the house, seeing that his parents were both shocked, sad, and disappointed. I couldn't look at them. I couldn't see how they thought of Liu when it was my fault. I just went to sleep, trying to get the whole thing off his mind.
Jane's POV:
The next day seemed to be passing without incident at first. Then I saw the police car in front of Jeff's house. "Looks like they got you." I thought. Nobody could gotten away with something like that (You know, with the neighborhood watch and everything.). But I was wrong with who they arrested. Instead of coming out with Jeff like I expected they would, the police came out with Liu, his brother. I was barely forming the thought of Jeff framing his brother for the assault when Jeff came out of the house yelling at Liu, "Liu tell them I did it" (I was able to hear him this time because the front door was open to my house.). I couldn't hear what Liu said in reply to Jeff's outbrust, but it was definitely not what Jeff wanted to hear.
A few seconds later, the police drove off with Liu, and Jeff was left outside with his mother. A few minutes later Jeff's mother went inside the house and left Jeff outside. Although I couldn't hear him from across the street, I could tell that he was crying. But who wouldn't be in that situation. The next day rumors were spreading like wildfire about Liu. It took so long for the rumors to get started because everyone was afraid to talk about Randy getting his ass handed to him. When it was revealed that he wouldn't be coming back to school for a few days, everyone decided to take advantage of that fact and enjoy it as much as possible, and lots of random bullshit started popping up.
"I heard Liu cut off Keith's arm!"
"Oh yeah? Well I heard that Liu hit Troy so hard in the stomach that he ralphed up blood!"
"That's nothing! I heard that he punch Randy so hard in the nose that it came out the back of his head!" and etc, etc, etc. Personally I didn't want anything to do with Jeff or his brother. But... he just looked so alone and upset that I had to do something. So I wrote him a note telling him that he had a friend in this place and that I was going to testify at Liu's trial about what really happen. I left the note at his desk signed with the letter "J" before class started, then left the room. When I came back Jeff was at his desk and the note was gone.
