Kickstart's Past

Chapter 2

   Kim followed Stripestar into the clearing, where she saw other cats. She saw kittens and grownups, all together. She smiled. Was she to live here? If so this place might actually feel like home.
   She looked over at some kits and ran over to say hi, the bell on her collar jingling. The three kits there started to run away, frightened. Then a young cat, older than her though, jumped in front of where they were. "Stay back, kittypet!" He spat rudely.
   Kim opened her mouth to make a harsh reply, but Stripestar spoke before she could, "Don't pick on the child, according to legend, she is about the age that Firestar was when he was found in the forest."
   "Firestar is just a legend! Every cat knows that!" The young one yowled to his leader.
   "This kit may prove you wrong, Redpaw," the leader said and finished, picking up Kim by the scruff and walking away.
   "Where are we going?" Kim asked.
   "To my den, we will dispose of your collar and name you there."
   "Yes sir!" Kim smiled and yelled, then she thought, "why must we change my name?" She asked. That's when Redpaw came ramming into Stripestar. She screeched and backed up a bit.
   "This is for trying to let a kittypet join us!" Redpaw yowled and bit his neck, the leader then fell to his side, another cat running to him.
   "Stripestar!" The shecat yelled. She must have been second in command. The shecat then yelled to Redpaw, "Get out! I don't want to see you in lightnighclan again!" The smaller cat then ran out.
   "S-stripestar?" Kim said, seeing if he was alive.
   "Sorry kit, I will have to go on to name you, and break that collar. I am Mapletail, well Maplestar now..." The shecat said sadly.
   "Y-yes ma-" the kit was cut off by Maplestar clawing off her collar.
   "You will now be known as Kickpaw, because of your being kicked from your home," the new leader started, "and your mentor, will be Oceanshadow." She flicked her tail toward a black shecat with blue eyes. The beginning of a new life started with the loss of a new friend.
   How could life get any worse.
