Her feet were leaden as she attempted the long trek to her cabin. God only knew how much she'd kill for a hot shower right about now. She was covered from head to toe, with a range of dirt, sweat, and rainwater.
It had rained. It had rained so hard that she was soaked to her marrow. Then again, she could stand in the rain for hours, taking in the feel of water running along her skin. Last time it had rained, she stood in it for hours. The last time there was rain, her brother had been there. But... that was beside the point. Right now, her goal was to get to that God- damned cabin. One foot in front of the other, she hauled ass up the steps.
As soon as she got up the steps, she almost collapsed right there and then. She fished her key out of her pants' pocket and unlocked her door. She turned the handle and cracked open her door to fit a still burning ember in her fireplace and an apparently warm house. She let the warmth soothe her aching body, letting it soak through her pores. She peeled off her boots and the rest of her clothing. She padded down the hall to her bathroom and turned the water on so hot, the bathroom started to steam. She stepped in and let the water wash away her sins in the form of mud and sweat. The mud left her body for the drain as she scrubbed her skin raw. She must have washed at least five times before she was satisfied. She walked out of her shower, dripping and wet and in search of a towel.
Well shit, she must've forgotten one. After all this work for that shower, she forgot a rutting towel. She stormed out of the bathroom, stark naked and cold, to rummage through her linen closet and fish something to dry herself with. Once she found a towel, she stomped off to her bedroom to find some flannel pants and a nice big t-shirt.
It started to burn. It was like the devil had carved out her insides and replaced them with hot coals. She keeled over and started dry heaving until the pain subsided. Then she saw him. She knew the pain wasn't for nothing. His glorious face shining with tears through her window. A slur of welsh curse words spilled out of her mouth as the door handle clicked unlocked.
"Oh shit, Danny Boy, way to make an entrance"
Then everything went black.
