Safe and Sound

Chapter 1: The Beginning

Have you ever had that feeling where faith thinks it's fun to mess with your life in an unconventional way? Well mine started two months before my sixteenth birthday. I wasn't aware of it at first, I even thought at one point my life was getting better.

I was the quarterback of my high school football team, my father's business in a distribution company is doing well, my mother's farm business is also booming and my girlfriend of two years, Jenny, became the Captain of the cheearleaders.

Yeah, everything was just fine and dandy. My family and I lived in a big house in our farm with our 2 dogs.

But then one day, everything just came crashing down on me when I received a letter from Jenny saying she's breaking up with me.

It was like my chest was hit by cannonball that I couldn't even breathe at that time. The worst part was that she's pregnant with my best friend's child.

I tried going on with my life but that never really stops the gossip and stares I get from school.

"I heard his girlfriend got pregnant by Sungjae"

"I heard also his dad's business are going broke and that the bank is seizing their farm as part of their collateral."

"No, really? God, that must be an awful thing to go through. How'd you know?"

"Well, my dad actually works for Mr. Kim"

My shoulders tensed when I heard that. I remembered how I hastily got out of the school when the final bell rang after classes just so I could escape this never ending horror. There was just no way, no way at all that we've gone broke right? I mean, I think I've suffered enough with Jenny's pregnancy and now this?

That was a months ago. I never had the guts to ask my parents about what my classmate's were saying because of how exhausted they look coming home from work and I never wanted to burden them until my Appa gave me this startling news:

"Son, your umma and I decided that we move to Seoul."

"What? Why? Did we go broke?" Taehyung asked hurriedly. Praying that the rumors weren't true.
