Chapter 47

Harry’s POV

As soon as I step into the familiar hallway, Rose appears at the end. Her hair is in a tail, a big sweater hangs loosely around her upper body and her watery eyes peer into mine. I notice the dark circles under her eyes.

Maybe I’m not the only one who couln’t sleep last night, maybe we have the same idea about this and just get over it. I think I can get over it anyway… If you don’t count the image of Adam’s lips on hers haunting me.

She looks away, her hands gripping onto the door frame as she nervously bites on her pink bottom lip.

All the words I had planned to say disappear from my mind and the only thing I can focus on is the girl in front of me who’s obviously trying to hold her tears.

“I packed my bags, I should go!” The words leave her mouth so quickly I almost think I heard something else.

This is it! This is the moment I tell her that I changed my mind, that I love her and want to spent as long with her as I can, but again nothing comes out. I just stare at her, my mouth opens and closes a couple of times but it doesn’t keep her from turning around and grabbing her coat. She locks eyes with me for a couple of seconds, a tear escapes and rolls down her cheek but she quickly wipes it away with her hand and looks away.

I watch how she walks through the hallway, into the kitchen and grabs the suitcases which are neatly placed in front of the fridge.

I need to stop her, I need to tell her that I want her to stay!

“Rose…” I finally say. She stops her movements but doesn’t turn around.

“No Harry, It’s okay! I get it!” Her voice sounds sad, but determined at the same time.

I can’t just let her go!

“Bu..-“

“No Harry” She cuts me off, her head finally snapping up and her hands tightly grabbing the suitcases and bags.

I’m a little taken back by her harsh words. Why would she do this? Why would she give up so fast? This isn’t like her!

She’s already walking back towards the front door with her eyes sternly fixed on her shoes when I quickly grab her arm and turn her back around. “Rose, listen I-I..-“

“Harry, I don’t want to listen! I realized that you were right, our whole relationship was unstable! We both know that this was never going to work anyway, we don’t trust each other! And that’s not good for a relationship! So, I’m making this easy for both of us by leaving.”

Even though I never wanted to admit it, deep down I know she’s telling the truth. What if this is what we need… space…

I let go of her arm, not knowing how to respond to her outburst. She smiles weakly at me before leaning in and pressing a soft kiss on my cheek. “I love you Harry, but sometimes that isn’t enough” She says softly before turning around again and walking away; leaving me, frozen in place, behind.

“I love you too”I whisper as I hear the front door close.

Rose’s POV

As soon as I step into the cold air I let the tears Spill.

The weird thing is that I never thought I could tell him like that, I thought I would break down right in front of him.

And even though I know we needed this, even though I think this is the best decision I could’ve made, I still feel the little piece that has just been taken away from my heart. How dramatic that sounds.

I’ve been so lost in my thoughts that I didn’t notice it started raining, cold raindrops already dripping out of my hair.

Slowly I walk towards the bus stop, not wanting to call a cab to bring me to my mother’s house. I have no idea how she’s going to react when she opens the door and sees her daughter, standing there with a dried tears on her face and suitcases in her hands. She never stood behind our relationship for the full hundred percent, she just accepted it because she knew I found happiness but now… I don’t know what she’s going to say.

I let out a deep sigh when I finally reach the bus stop and sit down next   a middle aged man with  a lot of facial hair who’s sitting on the small metal seat.

I run my hand through my dripping hair and wrap my coat tighter around my body, the man tilts his head my way. “Going on a vacation?” He asks with a deep voice, pointing at the suitcases I placed beside me.

“Something like that.” I shrug him off, not feeling like having small talk with a stranger. He nods, probably getting the hint.

After checking my phone for probably the hundredth  time after  I left Harry’s place, secretly hoping that he maybe called or left a message (which is very stupid since I was the one leaving him), the bus finally pulls over right in front of me.

“Let me help you” The man offers when I’m struggling with my suitcases. I give him a small appreciative smile  and we both step into the bus with two suitcases in our hands.

“What are you doing here?” My mother gasps when she sees me standing on her porch. After quite a long drive we finally reached my destination and I quickly escaped from the smelly air in the bus.

Her eyes land on my suitcases, probably already guessing what’s going on,  and I can already feel tears rolling down my cheek, something always happens when something happened and I see my mother.

“Oh honey, c’mon lets get you inside” With a warm small she picks up a suitcase and helps me inside. “I’ll get you a cup of tea” She tells me as I wipe my tears with the sleeve of my coat. I nod slowly and she leaves me behind in the hallway, one thought running through my mind.

Did I make a mistake?
