It's Time

The next two days felt like a dream. I had never been happier to have everyone I loved under the same roof. Dad just adored both Lilith and Asher. Peter was slowly growing fond of them—his attitude was better, but I know he wished things were the way they used to be. He missed me always flirting and hanging out with him.

Noah went to work this morning with intention of telling the company he had to take a leave of absence. I just hoped they wouldn’t be too upset about it or ask any questions. Noah had a great job and I didn’t want that to be jeopardized. Since Noah was out I decided to go out into ton and get a few things as well. I know we needed to travel light since we would be on the move often and if we needed to make a quick getaway, it would be easy to grab out stuff and run. I drove the jeep out and it felt weird driving. I usually never go into town anyway so I never drive.

At the store I found some hiking packs. I grabbed three of them and set them in the cart and then I grabbed some things like flashlights, rope and walkie-talkies. I also got some clothes, most of them were dark colored. It was always hot where we were, but I needed to get all different kinds of clothes for cold weather too. Fall was here so it would be cold in some of the regions where we were going. England was one of them, but the list he gave me showed other places we would have to go.

After my trip into town, I started to drive back. I couldn’t help but feel some excitement at the thought of being in action once again. When I was younger, I always had this need for excitement and there were so many things that I still wanted to do in my life, but in the end I was happy that I was settled with Noah and my two children. I could only hope that all of these breakouts would go smoothly.

When I got home, the kids were sleeping and the rest of the gang were sitting at the table. They spoke in hushed tones and I wondered what they were talking about. Once they saw me they stopped talking. When they leaned back I saw a package in the middle of the table. I set the bags down and grabbed the package.

“It just came in the mail.” Nina tells me. I nodded my head and took the package over to the counter. I opened it up and saw a large envelope inside. It was thick and I could guess what was in there. I peeked inside and pulled out not two but three plane tickets, new passports, ID cards, and a big stash of money. I looked at Peter.

“Why are their three plane tickets and a passport with your picture on it?” I ask looking at Peter. He pursed his lips and sighed.

“Nora, after Noah called for help, I called Charlie and I told him I wanted in.” He says. I don’t say a word and look back at the tickets. We had to be at the airport by tomorrow morning. I cover my mouth and try to stop the tears. I was going to have to leave a lot sooner than I thought.

“I am going to my room.” I say grabbing everything and taking it to my room. I shut the door behind me and sit down on the bed. I looked down at the floor for a long while trying to wrap my head around the fact that I would be leaving me children and I had no idea how long I would be gone. I start packing my clothes and Noah’s. It was just the essentials. After that I went into Lilith’s room and looked at her sleeping. I would miss seeing that face every morning. I felt a hand on my shoulder and whipped around. It was Noah and I turned into him and started to cry into his shirt.

“It will be okay Nora. I am going to miss them too, but we will be back before you know it.” He tells me. He holds me tight and I try to relax and stop crying, but I couldn’t.

“I just hate this. I thought everything was over.” I say. Noah had committed many crimes in his youth, but that never seemed to come back to bite like me asking for help from Charlie did.
