Chapter 1

It was pitch black, I was sitting against the bathroom door with my knees to my chest. I couldn't stop crying and I hated myself for it, i hated that I let someone ruin my happiness. I was in my thoughts when the sound of police sirens grew vociferous outside my window. And that's when I heard him banging and thrashing on the bathroom door. "Puta estupida habré la puerta" he kept yelling. I tried so hard to silence my cries and squirms until finally I heard different voices. Voices that weren't familiar, I'm guessing it had to be the police. "Habré la puerta, tranquila que somos policías" a deep manly voice said. I was hesitant because it could've been him tricking me, "I'm going to slide my police badge under the door to prove it" the same man with the deep voice said. I got up and looked in the mirror, my eyes were bloodshot, my curly hair was frizzy and my body was covered up in bruises. Slowly but surely I reached to open the door, just a little though. Peaking through the crack I saw two men dressed as police officers, finally I feel safe. I hugged them for rescuing me "Gracias gracias ay gracias" I thanked them. "That man has been abusing me for the past year , look at the scars all over my body. He beats me continuously until I black out" I cried out as they wrote it down filing a police report. They put him in hand cuffs and arrested him. "Come with us to the police station to explain your story" the police assured me, I nodded. The whole car ride there I kept regretting this "What if he escapes and comes looking for me" "What if this makes everything worse" "What if when they release him, he finds me" all these what if's kept racing through my mind. I tried to convince myself that I did the right thing and that this would introduce a new beginning to my life. When i got to the precinct, all eyes were on me. The officers and other delinquents stared at my bruises as I walked to the questioning room.
