Chapter II:
“Elle! Aisha! Wait up!” I saw Joel running down the hallway catching up to us. As soon as he did, he immediately positioned himself in between me and Elle and placed his hands over our shoulders.
“So….how are my two favourite girls doing? Miss me?” he said with a cocky grin.
“Sure….but the things is, we just hanged-out yesterday, so I don’t really see the point of missing you!”. Elle retorted back crossing her arms.
“Ouch!...that hurts you know!” Joel pouted feigning hurt and sadness.
“Hey, hey! Both of you! Cut it out!..Class is this way…remember?” pointing to our room…interrupting their bickering before they got carried away.
WE made our way inside and seated near the window with Elle beside me and Joel behind her. Elle has been my friend since my parents and I transferred here and Elle living next door 6 years ago. Although we were completely opposite being me the introvert one, it still didn’t stop her from befriending me. Joel came along during our freshman year. He was still skinny then but was already good-looking. We were grouped for a school project. The project consisted of endless meetings and weekly sleepovers. But it didn’t stop there. The sleepovers became group movie nights which lasted until this day. I guess we just all clicked. Although Elle and Joel can’t help bickering with each other, but in the end we still stick together.
As Mrs. Phillips, our history teacher, entered the room, silent whispers started spreading. As soon as I heard Elle’ s gasp, she held my wrists, shaking it excitedly and said “Oh.My.God!!! He has the same class as ours!”.
That is when I saw him. As if I were in a trance, I just looked at him. He was wearing a loose fitted white shirt and semi fitted jeans. A black backpack hung loose on his right shoulder. He stands roughly at 6ft 2ins tall. Though the shirt is not too tight, but you can still imagine him having those packs inside with his slight movements. Good-looking is an understatement. His hair was similar to Jared Padalecki’s hair in the Supernatural Series which he brushed using his hands unconsciously when some strands found their way to his face. The colour is a mixture of brown with little hints of red depending on how it captured the light. His face is somewhat chiselled to almost perfection, if that makes any sense at all. His feature is a complete oxymoron. He radiates power as someone who you should not mess with and yet seems like someone who is gentle and caring. He seems withdrawn and yet inviting…. There was something in him that I could not understand as if he was a mystery itself brought to life... In case you are wondering, I have never stared at a man before much more scrutinized their appearance. And yeah, I never had a relationship nor was kissed or touched intimately. It is not as if no one asked me out. It just felt wrong… and I never understood why nor bothered knowing.
“OK Class, we have a transferee…. Mr. Phrye, could you please introduced yourself to everyone?”. Mrs. Phillips said breaking my trance which was a good thing since I really didn’t like the confusion I’m feeling right now.
The majority of the female population suddenly perked up and waited for his small speech. “Uhmm.. good morning everyone, You can just call me Levi by the way. Hope we get along with each other”…
The speech was rather lame for me. Given another scenario, I might have just brushed it off….but there was something in his voice….as if calling out to me and I really don’t like it at all.
“Thank you Mr. Phrye. You can take a set.” I glanced at the room and there were about 3 vacant seats. One in the middle, one at the back near Michelle’s little group of cheerleaders and the other behind me. I silently prayed for him NOT to choose the seat behind me. Oh please… I need to have my emotions in check… I definitely don’t need this type of distraction.
Michelle and some of the girls started smiling, fixing their hairs and shirt trying to catch his attention. Just this once, I truly appreciate their flirting efforts. Please … please… choose the seat they are offering… please…
As if a walking beacon, he started looking around the classroom and to my utter discomfort, he stopped when he saw me… not the chair but me. And on top of that, I saw recognition and confusion written all over his face…. Well that was weird… I would definitely remember if I saw him before wouldn’t I?...
Oh no!..oh no!..no…no..no…no… I saw him trying to make his way towards us. Suddenly he stopped in front of me and asked “Is that chair taken?” pointing to the chair behind me. I looked up and saw his eyes. I almost drowned in them. It was brown with gold specks. Suddenly, I saw images of fire, heat… but not the burning ones…it is more of warmth… a pleasant type of warmth.
“It’s ok… the chair’s not taken!”..... I heard Elle say breaking eye contact which brought me back to reality. Woahhh! What the hell was that!? Shaking my head lightly. That was really weird…
“Thank you..err..” Levi said awkwardly…
“Elle… the name’s Elle”. She smiled.
“Thank you again Elle”. He said going for the seat behind me.

I could not concentrate through the whole period. I can feel he was watching me… Don’t know how, but I just felt it. Talk about being uncomfortable. I was glad when the bell rang. I was just about to get my things and ran out when he called out “Uh.. Hey!.. I was just wondering…, since I’m new here, is it ok if you could help me out with the directions?”
Again feeling stupid and dumb, I was not able to utter a single word. Elle must have sensed it and covered for me… “Sure! Let us see your schedule!” She said. “Forgive our friend here. She is just a shy person… right Aisha?”….coaxing me to respond by elbowing my arms.
“Oh! Right… sorry” I managed to say softly….
Levi handed her his schedule and just my luck… I got all of my classes with him. Just great… NOT!!! Well at least we have separate GYM classes considering boys and girls are segregated at that class…. I still have my Arts and Music. Fortunately, he was not in it.
“Wow!.. you got the same class as ours. We can all go together!” Clapping her hands. “Oh by the way, this is Aisha and Joel”.
“Hey!”.. Joel acknowledged while doing a mock salute. “Joel here”.
“Hi… Levi…” smiling at Joel, giving back his name. Then he turned back to me and smiled..
I nodded and answered “...Aisha. nice meeting you Levi”.
“Same here” he answered back.
“Okaaay… I think we should be heading now to our next class. You wouldn’t want to get a detention on the first day of school….” Stupid…stupid.. Did I really have to say that?
“..uh.. ok” Levi said sounding amused..
