The sky was a dark inky blue. The moon casting it's milky glow onto the clouds, outlining them in silver. The warm orange light from the newly lit bonfire was comforting on the cold November night. My breath condensed in clouds in front of my face, curling into the night air. I cupped a paper mug of warm hot chocolate between my gloved hands to try and bring some semblance of warmth and sensation back to my fingers. I watched as the fire slowly spread through the whole bonfire, sending bright orange flames and glowing embers leaping into the night sky.

People milled around in front of me. They seemed so far away, as if they were in another dimension. I went unnoticed as I stood away from the fire, leaning against a tree, wrapped from head to toe in warm clothing. The ears of my hat covering my cold ones, shielding them from the biting wind. As I sipped my chocolate, I caught someone staring at me. They had short hair that stuck up, the light from the fire lighting up the ends, beautiful eyes and amazing cheek bones. They wore a long coat and large fluffy scarf. I quickly dropped my gaze and stared at the curling steam from my drink. Through the din of the people huddled around the bonfire for warmth, I heard one set of footsteps stop in front of me. I looked up from my drink and saw a pair of black boots. I looked up more and saw a pair of denim clad legs, covered from the knee up with a long dark blue felt coat. I looked up even more until we made eye contact. Oh man. Their eyes were insanely beautiful. Their smile lit a fire in my heart and made a smile appear on my own face. They introduced themselves and we stood, talking until the fireworks began.

We craned our necks and watched as the sky came alive with colour. Blue, red, white, purple, so many colours, so much beauty. I stole a sideways glance at my companion and saw that their smile had spread wider and brighter. I smiled wider and slipped my arm around their waist. They looked at me and their face softened with joy. They leaned their cheek on the top of my head. I felt so warm and fuzzy inside. I was so happy. The light from the fireworks lit up their face, and shone in their eyes.

We sat together on the bench, sharing a baked potato with warmed up toffee apples waiting next to our plate. We laughed and talked late into the night and watched as the flames of the bonfire died.
