"You heard me, you're going undercover together. You just happen to need to act married. Charlie's gonna be running tech for you," Bobby said, sitting down at his desk. "I didn't think that you boys were that stupid. You are here, after all, you must have some kind of brains in those heads of yours."
"No, sir, I understand that, but I'm not a field agent," Castiel told him. "I'm better equipped to help in here."
"Castiel, you're trained to go out into the field, you've been there before. Now, both of you out of my office and go get ready for the mission. We're sending you both out at sunrise tomorrow morning," Bobby told them, shooing them away. Dean grabbed the passports, handing Castiel's to him as they walked out.
"What was all that about?" Dean asked, following Castiel as he made his way back to his desk.
"What was what about?" Castiel asked, not even turning to look at the other man as he went to gather his things.
"That whole field agent thing. You used to run the field?" Dean asked, hurrying a bit and stopping in front of Castiel. "Here I was, thinking that you were just a nerd."
"Is that not what you've been telling me since you first got assigned as my responsibility? Why does that change because of who I used to be?" Castiel asked, grabbing his laptop and putting it in its bag. "Now move, Winchester, I have to make a call."
"It changes everything! Now I know that you were probably a badass. I mean, if you didn't act like you do now," Dean rambled, not moving out of Castiel's way. Castiel just shoved past him, not wanting to deal with the insolent manchild any longer.
"I don't see how who I was then changes who I am now," Castiel said as he passed Dean.
"Why did I ever even think that you could've been cool?" Dean said, just loud enough for Castiel to hear. "You were made to be a tech." Castiel shrugged it off, making his way out of the building. He had bigger and better things to worry about than what that douchebag thought of him, like who was going to feed his cat when he was out on this mission. He took a deep breath to calm himself down before calling his brother.
"Hey, Cassie! What's the occasion?" Castiel smiled at his brother's enthusiasm, not even bothering to correct the nickname. He could handle it from his brother, just not Dean Winchester. Everything about Dean Winchester, from his arrogance to even that stupid car that he drove, made Castiel's blood boil.
"Hey, Gabriel. Listen, they're sending me out on a mission and I need someone to take care of Grace for me," Castiel told him.
"I thought that you didn't do that anymore," Gabriel said, slightly confused. "Like, aren't you just supposed to be working from the main place now?"
"Yeah, that's what Director Singer and I agreed on, but now I'm getting sent back into the field. Some mission in London," Castiel told him. Gabriel knew about Cas's work life, the two being the closest of their family of eight. Yes, it was a big family.
"Yeah, well, stay safe out there, baby bro," Gabriel told him. "When do you leave?"
"Tomorrow," Castiel replied. "Just drop by the apartment in the morning and you can stay there as long as I'm away."
"Sure thing, Cassie. Just make sure to call me or something once you're out there. Solo or partner mission?" Gabriel asked. Castiel had gotten into his car and was pulling out of the lot before he answered.
"Partner."
"I thought you don't do partners. I mean, not since-"
"Yeah, I don't. But Director Singer assigned me to go with my field agent, Winchester," Castiel cut him off. "It's not like I exactly had a choice, but I tried arguing to stay. Listen, I'm driving now so I should probably hang up."
