Three girls came strutting into the hall, and the large crowd of students parted to the sides for them. One, had red hair so bright. her nickname among the students was Fire Truck. Hey gray eyes that had no hit of color match her personality; boring and a complete ditz, but easy to get into bed.

Another, a blonde who dyes her hair every few months to match her royal blue eyes just to match her name. Hey eyes also matched the way she talks; deep and emotional. Sapphire was Lyrica's favorite of the three.

The leader, Diamond, had pure white hair and icy blue eyes which seemed to match the way she talked about people. She could be sweet and nice to your face but once your back is turned, she talks shit that most of the time isn't even true.

"Who are they?" came an unfamiliar male voice.

"They're the Jewels. Sapphire, Garnet, and the big one herself, Diamond." Lyrica explained. She glanced over her shoulder, trying to get a look at who asked. With all the students packed to the sides, all she saw was a swirling mass of familiar faces.

"Don't you think that's a little coincidental? They're all named after jewels and the leader is what everyone wants? Sounds kinda. . .set-up?" Came another male voice.

Mercy laughed. "There are a lot of theories going around about it. You'll have to ask around. Lyrica here," Mercy placed a hand on Lyrica's shoulder. "thinks that they were specially breaded just because they're popular and everyone likes them, even though they're rude and mean most of the fuckin' time." Mercy spit out the curse and glared.

"That's because I hate every single one of those uptight air-headed bitches except for Sapphire. She's alright." Lyrica pushed her way through the crowed and sauntered up to the three girls, who looked at her with face-splitting grins.

"Lyrica!" Diamond squealed, puller her in for a big bear hug. "I've missed you. It's so good to see you again! What were you doing all summer? I must've sent you, like, a bazillion texts and you didn't answer one of them. You're not avoiding us, are you?" Diamond stuck her lower lip out, making most of the school's male population swoon.

"Actually, Mercy and I went on a trans-continental cruise. We wanted time for just us and no city noises. It was quite relaxing," Lyrica stated, matter of fact.

"Yeah, until we found the chocolate fountain," Mercy said, just loud enough for Lyrica and the surrounding students could hear.

Out of the corner of her mouth, Lyrica whispered "shut up" forcefully.

Diamond stared daggers at Mercy. "You. . . were hanging out with. . . her instead of us?"

"Exactly. You see, I don't like you, or Garnett. Sapphire is really the only one of you three worth talking to. She doesn't  go on talking about the latest guy she's hooked up with. Oh, and Mark Gerbig, nice job with Garnet last night." Lyrica sent a thumbs up to a red-faced jock in a red and black Letterman jacket. The hall went silent.

"Another thing," Lyrica continued after Mark rushed out of the hall and to his first class. "Diamond, you are a self-centered, spoiled little brat who talks false shit about people. You talk about Garnett and Sapphire when they're not around too." Lyrica turned her back on them and started walking down the hallway.

"Bitch!" Diamond called after her.

Still walking, Lyrica stuck both of her middle fingers in the air. Not really paying attention to anything, she ran head on into someone. Oh shit, she thought. Teacher!

She looked up, but there wasn't a teacher. There was a guy, and a new student. She knew because he held a map of the school in his hand. Lyrica looked up at his face, and completely melted. He was absolutely breathtaking.

Ink colored hair, that hung low, and just barely scraped his eyes. Oh, and what beautiful eyes he had. A blazing blue, that looked more like a colored contact than a real iris. There was a darker blue ring around the edge. His skin was flawless and fair. His lower lip was full, while the upper was a bit thinner. He had the snakebite piercings right under his bottom lip, but it just completed the look. If it was possible, he looked even better.

Lyrica lost her breath while staring at him and Mercy waved her hand in front of Lyrica's face. "Hellooooo? Hellooo? Is anyone in there?" She knocked on Lyrica's head with her knuckles.

Lyrica jumped. "Oh, um, hey Mercy. When did you get there?" She started blinking, trying to get herself out of the trance this boy has made her fall in.

"A few second ago." Mercy looked up at the boy and smiled. Sticking out her hand and grinning like the Cheshire cat she said, "Hi. You must be new here. I'm Mercy Caverly, and this is my best friend, Lyrica Slater." She took Lyrica's arm and made her wave.

"Stop," Lyrica hissed, then smiled at the new kid. ""And your name is...?"

"Ryan. This is my best friend Nathan. We go everywhere together."

A boy stepped out from behind Ryan. Mercy stared at the him and Lyrica glanced at the boy and could see why. He had onyx colored hair, that, if straight and not switched to the side, could possibly hang about halfway in his eyes. Oh and what eyes he had. They were the most generous color green and his teeth were straight and perfect and the brightest white that Mercy  has ever seen. His skin was pale, which made the red shirt he wore stand out even more.

Lyrica looked over to her best friend, and found that Mercy was about to drool. "Mercy," Lyrica warned her, while making subtle hints to wipe her chin. Mercy sucked in a breath, grabbing the drool, but choking on the excess oxygen gathered.

"Is she okay?" Nathan asked. Mercy gagged, but managed to hold a hand up to Ryan. "Just fine, thanks." she said awkwardly between coughs. "Just a minute, if you would." Taking Lyricas tan arm, Mercy pulled her over to the wall, and were pressed up against the lockers. "New kids?"

Lyrica sighed. "Looks like it, and you know what that means, don't you?" Mercy gave her a slight nod.

"It means all those uptight bitches that you just told off will be all over them. Damn and they were fiiiine. I hope they don't corrupt them too bad."

"Here's an idea. Lets show them around, and become friends with them before The Jewels get to them first," Lyrica suggested.

Mercy, looking doubtful, said, "That might work." She turned back around and spun Lyrica with her. Flashing her pearly whites, Mercy asked to see Nathan and Ryan's schedule. After they handed them over Lyrica noticed that her and Ryan has all but 2 classes together. "Dude this is strange. Is it the same with you and the other one? What was his name? Nathan I think it was."

Mercy nodded, grabbed Nathan's arm and started dragging him down the hall, to homeroom, a class that Lyrica shared with her. Shaking her head at her best friend, she turned to Ryan. "Ready to go?" Ryan nodded, looking slightly nervous, and they walked to homeroom together, trailing behing Mercy and Nathan.
