I've been told that love is somewhat like a flower. It begins as a seed, planted somewhere in your chest, unnoticeable. Eventually, it will begin to grow; it's roots will encase your heart and it will bloom just under your soul. Or the seed will wilt, dying before it's able to even begin to sprout. That's what love is like.

And I would soon find that out myself.

___

A bang resounded throughout my small apartment, knocking me out of my slumber just as suddenly as the noise itself. Half-packed suitcases and clothes were strung across the caramel-colored carpet, which used to be stainless.

Note to Self: learn how to clean.

I dropped out of bed, my grey blanket trailing after me for a few steps, before falling. Another bang came from the door, as well as multiple dings due to someone firing away at my doorbell.

"One sec!" I yelled, dodging a suitcase, and in that moment, a realization came to mind.

I didn't finish packing.

Curse after curse strung from my lips; how could I be so stupid? I was leaving for Korea today, for God's sake! We would be staying there for the entire summer. My gaze searched for a clock, and when I found one, I groaned. It was nearly nine in the morning; the plane left at 9:45. And who else would be at the door except Mia Lee, my bestfriend, who happened to plan this trip, and who also happened to be incredibly stingy if need be.

Upon reaching the door, I whipped it open, not at all surprised when she sighed at my mess of an apartment.

"You're not even finished packing? What the hack, Audrey."

By the time we had reached the airport, we had 20 minutes to get through security and all that. Mia had been pissed, but it dwindled after my 40th apology; Myself, on the other hand, was fully awake and nearly bouncing off the walls in excitement.

As a teenager, I had been overly obsessed with the unique culture and such of Korean (including the food- yum!), and my fascination led to me learning the language, though I was a bit rusty due to under use. I met Mia my sophomore year of college; she wasn't too good at English and so I ended up helping her out a lot. When she asked me if I wanted to visit her family with her a month ago, I jumped at the idea, and now here we were.

Security didn't take as long as we'd thought, and we got on the plane just in time, settling into our seats. I slipped my headphones in without a second thought, flashing Mia one last grin before the music drowned my thoughts.

___

"Come oooon," a voice drawled in my ear. Mia. "We're here; Seoul~ wakie-wakie. Hey." She pushed at my shoulder; I sat up a bit in my seat as my ears popped and groaned a little, my arms stretching above my head. I looked out the window, amazed and now fully awake by the view. It was stunning, and even though the area around the airport was mostly pavement and the sun was setting, my eyes were able to catch the slight bumps of mountains in the distance.

Mia tugged on my sleeve, urging me to get off the plane and so we did; Mia's parents were waiting patiently, with Mia's name written on a sign. With the Korean I knew, I introduced myself shakily. We shuffled through the crowds and somehow made it to the luggage pickup, and finally, out of the airport where we took Mr. and Mrs. Lee's car to their house, where we'd be staying for the duration of our stay.

The house was pretty as well; it was two stories and was painted a mint green, a particularly large tree was in the yard, a tire swing attached to it. I didn't have time to wonder why it was there, as two small children, — twins— stumbled out the front door and down the front steps. They were about five, both male. Lopsided grins lit their faces as they ran to their sister, giggling and hugging Mia's legs. I smiled at the sight.

It didn't take long for the two to notice me, as they ran right over, confusion lacing their voices, "Who are you?"

Mia gasped and gently slapped one of their shoulders before turning back to me, smiling apologetically. I rolled my eyes at her, laughing before turning to the two.

"My name's Audrey," I told them, crouching down to their height. A smile immediately upturned my lips as I listened for their reply. They had trouble pronouncing my name, and so they began calling me Drey, instead. The two of them eventually lost interest and ran back inside, Mia and I following soon after with our luggage.

Jet lag was beginning to set in before I even reached the room I'd be staying in. We had eaten after we took care of our luggage, and we dismissed ourselves to our bedrooms. I rubbed at my eyes, barely able to change into my pajamas until I slipped into bed, falling asleep soon after my head hit the pillow.
