Chapter Six: Air

I awaken from my slumber in my chair. Except when I look up, I'm not in my chair. Or in the dark room. I look at the colorful pink-walled room around me and see a mirror sitting on a vanity across the room. I look at the bed I was asleep on and see Zoe, my girlfriend, asleep next to me.
Was all of that a dream? Why am I in Zoe's room? I know her parents would never let her bring me up here. What's- happening?
Zoe stretches her arms out and yawns a huge yawn. She opens her eyes and sees that I'm awake. She sits up beside me. Her sharp blue eyes turn to look into my dark brown ones.
"What- happened?" I ask, a strange scowl on my face,"What did you do?"

------------------------------------------------------

My eyes stare blankly at the pink wall. I didn't get any of that, but okay, I guess. I jump as I make my return from la-la land.
Her mom calls from downstairs,"Zoe, come down! It's almost time for church! What are you doing up there, anyway?"
Zoe's eyelids fly open. She looks at me, then at the door, then back at me.
"Nothing, Mom! I'll be down in a minute," she calls back. Her voice turns quiet,"You have to go before I have to go or my mom comes up here."
"But how?" I ask,"There's no exit without passing her. She's gonna know one way or another."
"Jake! You have water powers, right?"
"Yeah, but how will that help?"
"Shoot it down out the window then jump down and lower yourself with it."
"That was more complicated than it needed to be, but I see where you're going with it."
I pull the covers off myself and stand up. I open the widow and start to climb up.
"ZOE!!!"
I speed up. I jump from the window and shoot water out from my feet. My feet land safely on the ground, soaked.
Zoe peeks her head out the window and gives a thumbs up. I wave one back up to her second floor window and smile. She returns it with a perfect, bright white toothy smile.

------------------------------------------------------

My own bed feels so relaxing when I plop down into it. I had to sneak past Vicki since it's been four days since she's seen me. She probably think I was kidnapped. Well, I guess I was, technically.
"Samantha, is your father upstairs?" Vicki asks my adopted sister.
"No, Mommy," Samantha replies. She's only six.
"Wait- then that means- JAKE?! JAKE?! HONEY!! ARE YOU UP THERE, JAKE?!"
"Vick- Mom? Yeah, I'm fine. Why?" I played it cool.
"HONEY!! JACOB!!" Vicki screams at the top of her lungs. I hear her super-sonic-speed stomping up the stairs. She whips open my door and sprints in to hug me. Her arms hurt wrapped around my shoulders so tightly.
"Mooom," I whine,"You're embarrassing me!"
"In front of who?" Good point, Vicki. "Wait, that's off topic. Where the hell have you been, Jake!?"
Did my adopted mom just swear? Wait, that's off topic.
"Umm..." I try to think of an excuse,"Places..." I sill can't tell her. Not yet, at least. "I'm tired and need sleep. Please go, Mom." Sure, that works as an excuse.
"Okay, but when you wake up I'm coming back up here and you're going to tell me what's going on," she says as she stands up to leave. She closes my door behind her and her soft footsteps get softer as she walks away.
Great, I have a few hours now. That should be enough time to think of something.
What time is it, anyway? I look over to my digital clock on my dresser and see that it's only 9:26. Actually, I have a while to relax. But I'm not tired.
I roll back over and turn on my small TV set up on my miniature bookshelf. Cops comes on and I lie down into my pillow. Relaxing time. I'm asleep in mere minutes. I don't really know why because I wasn't tired at all. I'd just gotten a whole night's sleep. Eh, whatever.
As I lie in bed and sleep, I dream of death. I dream of Ivanov's flames flying everywhere. I dream of him in his robotic suit standing on a huge pile of bodies. I dream of the end of it all. The end of me and my powers, of Zoe and her powers, and of my new family.

This must be how it ends.

Hey, bros! Thanks for all the support in helping me to get six chapters into Waterboy! If you want to know how Jake got out of Ivanov's lair, you should read the upcoming chapters of Descendant of the Sky, by Magic_Minty a new sister novel to Waterboy. She and I are both very excited to be working together to create great stories for both Jacob and Zoe. Once again, thank you all for reading and supporting Waterboy. That's all for today, bros.
