Today is Halloween, one of Rebecca's favorite holidays. I put on my costume, Dean Ambrose from WWE, and go to pick her up to drive out to Burlington to my uncle's lake-house in a rich neighborhood. I pull up in front of her house and stop the engine. I get out of the car and walk up to the door. I knock loudly so everyone in the house can hear me. Her dad opens the door and tells me she is still packing for the 2 weeks in Burlington. I sit in a recliner in her dad's man-cave and wait for her to come downstairs. I promise her parents she will be safe the entire time with me. She has her costume, Little Dead Riding Hood, and we leave holding hands until we get to my car. She says she wants Kailey, who had become her best friend, to come with and sleep over too. So I call Kailey, who answers almost instantly. "Hey, you wanna come on a 2 week vacation to Burlington with me and Rebecca?" I ask. "Sure just let me pack, I'll drive myself. Can I have the address?" She asks. "Sure, okay bye" I say. We pull up on the massive lake-house, which overlooks Green Lake perfectly. I drop my boat into the water and get it to my dock. I smile at Rebecca and tell her I'm going into town to get food, drinks, ice, and wood. Maybe a few other things. Kailey sits with Rebecca the entire time. When I got back, Kailey changed into her Jack Skellington costume and we went out into the neighborhood. We got back, bags full of candy and big smiles on our faces. Kailey didn't like it when me and Rebecca drank, so we waited for her to head off to her room and go to sleep before I popped the cork on a wine bottle and poured two cups. I went to the end of the dock where Rebecca was waiting. We finished our glasses and looked out over the lake, holding hands tightly, one of my hands on her thigh. When we went inside, we sat and watched Netflix all night, cuddling and smiling. She fell asleep in my arms and I kissed her lightly and carried her to bed. I tucked her in, kissed her goodnight, and left to sit in my truck. I fell asleep with the heat on and wrapped in a blanket. When I woke up, it was 2:30 in the morning. I made breakfast and sat at the bar with a can of Miller Lite and the TV on. Just imagining Rebecca made me smile...
