It was 7:30 in the morning when her dad came bursting into her room.
"Jordan, get up. I have to get to work," Her dad seemed irritated, but that was nothing new. Leo Clark, Jordan's dad, worked for the FBI and that was all he really cared about since Jordan's mom died. He was rarely ever home and when he was, he never paid much attention to her.
Jordan got up, rushed to get ready, and hopped into the car. The entire ride to school Leo didn't say one word to her which is usual for him when he's working on a big case. Of course, he never shares any details, but she can always tell when they're pretty serious.
It was Jordan's first day at Riverbank high school. By now she was used to being the new kid because she and her dad moved a lot.
"Oh, hey, we got a new student, " one of the jocks stated as his friends snickered while they walked passed her locker. She could tell by his varsity jacket and attitude that he was the school's football captain. He had brown hair and hazel eyes and pretty well built. He was rather tall as well. Jordan found him kind of cute, but he seemed like a huge asshole.
"Can I help you?" Jordan replied quite sarcastically. She had no intention of getting to know this boy or having any "casual" conversations. She hoped he'd get the hint and walk away. But sure enough, he was as stupid as he looked.
"I'm Dean. What's your name sexy?" He asked with a smirk on his face. It took all she had not to punch him in his throat. She knew her dad wouldn't be very happy if he got called out of work for something so stupid.
"None of your business. Now if you don't mind, I'd like to get to class," She snapped and before he could reply she walked away. Jordan knew she was going to have some problems with him. She just hoped it wouldn't get too out of hand but if it go to that point, she wouldn't hesitate to put him in check. Jordan was kind of a badass - she was very capable of taking care of herself. I mean, you can kind of expect that with her dad being an FBI agent.
Jordan's first few classes went by rather fast and before she knew it, it was time for lunch. As she was walking into the cafeteria, she noticed how many students there were. She guessed, maybe, around 3,000 students. They filled the entire room from wall to wall like a bunch of ants surrounding a sucker that was dropped on the ground. You could easily tell who the popular kids were and who the "losers" were. Riverbank was ran by stereotypes and any student that's been there awhile knew not to try and break that. If your family didn't have a lot of money you were automatically thrown to the bottom of the chain where you became a nobody. Jordan didn't really want to be a part of that so she walked out of the cafeteria to go sit in the library. As she was walking down the hall she ran into Dean making out with a blonde, tall chick. She found it quite amusing, so all she could do was laugh. He seemed to hear her because he whirled around to see who it was. Jordan started walking away wishing she could unsee that. He tried to stop her, probably to make up a lame ass excuse, but she ignored him and kept on walking.
The rest of the day went by pretty well for Jordan. She didn't see Dean anywhere and she found some people who she might be able to tolerate. However, her good day turned to shit when her dad didn't show up to pick her up from school. She didn't feel like waiting around so she decided to just walk home even though she didn't exactly live close by.
Leo didn't walk in the door until 9 o'clock. Jordan was waiting on the couch furious with him. She wanted more than anything to just yell at him and tell him how much she hated him, but instead all that came out was a bunch of tears. All the tears that she had built up over the years of her dad disappointing her. She ran to her room before her dad could say anything. It was the first night, since her mother died, that she cried herself to sleep. All she could think about was how much she wished her mother was still there.
