"Your a little genius, you know that?" Rhydian said as him and Maddy walked down the school hallway next to each other. "So to celebrate our victory, I thought we could go out for dinner," he slowly grabs her hand. Maddy looks down at their connected hand and then back at Rhydian. "Not Bernie's. Someplace special" Maddy finally has the courage to say, "Are you asking me out on a date?" Rhydian looks back at their friends, Tom and Shannon, and then back towards Maddy. "Yea. But you don't have to if you don't want t-..." "I'd love to" Maddy interrupts, making sure he knows she's interested. Kara, Kay, and Katlyn walk down the hall noticing Maddy's and Rhydian's intertwined hands and sings, "Rhydians got a girlfriend, Rhydians got a girlfriend" Both Maddy and Rhydian flush.
Maddy runs inside her home and yells, "Mum you won't believe, Rhydian just asked me-..." She was stopped at the sight of her mum and dad sitting at the dining room table with someone who she isn't very fond of. Dr. Whitewood. Her enemy.
"What's going on?" Maddy asked in confusion as to why her parents would stand to have this creature in their home. "I think you should sit down pet" her mum says. Maddy walks around the table in an empty seat across from the evil women and everyone started to explain.
"It's a dog bone, you can't prove anything. I touched it and the dog chewed it. So there's a possibility you could have just mixed mine and the dogs DNA." Maddys dad said, angry at the situation. "No I'm 100% positive that this DNA is from a creature that is half human, half wolf. You guys are some extraordinary creatures" Dr. Whitewood says, looking all of them in the eyes. She isn't afraid, she feels like she overpowers them in someway that she can't explain. "I think we're going to have to ask you to leave" Emma says, Maddys mum. Dr. Whitwood gets up from the table with out saying a word, collects her things and walks out the door. Emma and Daniel are running around the house, grabbing suitcases and packing them with stuff that's important. "You might want to start packing pet" Emma says. Maddy looks at her mum and without saying a word she gets up from the table and runs to her room. She couldn't pack. There was only one person she wanted to talk to. Rhydian.
She calls him but gets voicemail so she decides to text Shannon instead. She explains what's happening and tell Shan everything. About Dr. Whitewood finding out and how scared she is, even though she's trying to hold it in. Shan tells Maddy that Rhydian is in detention so that's why he couldn't answer his phone. Shannon takes it upon herself to text Rhydian, knowing he might get in trouble for his phone, that Maddy is in danger. When Rhydian reads the text message, he gets up from his desk in detention, grabs his bag, and bolts out the classroom without explaining where he's going.
He gets a call from Maddy but doesn't answer in enough time because her parents and herself are already in the car picking him up. They drive to the end of the forest where Stonybridge ends and they walk about half a mile in complete silence. Maddys and Rhydian hand intertwine and once they reach the top of a hill. Rhydian decides to break the silence, "It'll just make things worse, why do you have to go?" "Because it was over before you tried. She knows about us now. Anything I drink out of, anything I touch she could get more DNA. It's only a matter of time" Maddy replies not being able to look in his eyes. "Come with us! You'll have Jana and your mum, and it won't be forever!" She says finally getting the guts to stare right into his green eyes. "Maddy, I can't. If you leave it will only be Whitewood after you. If I disappeared suddenly there's a manhunt. 'Smith family kidnap a minor'. Theres nowhere safe from that. I got to stay" Maddy squeezes his hand a little tighter and got a step closer to him, "Please.." she whispers as her voice cracks. "Anyways, somebody's got to stop Jeffries from having a breakdown" Rhydian says looking away from Maddy. Maddy looks towards the floor when suddenly she hears two pairs of feet running at them. Tom and Shannon. "This can't be happening" Tom says. "Tell us you found a way out of this" Shan says after Tom. Rhydian and Maddy look at each other once again and say nothing while they look back at the ground.
They all walked side by side Maddy and Rhydians hands still glued together. Maddy runs ahead of them unsticking her and Rhydians hands. "This is as far as you'll go" she looks at all of them. They all slowly walk together and form a group hug. Emma and Daniel have no choice but to watch frendships that should have lasted forever fall apart at the seems. They break apart the hug and all look at each other. Maddy decides to break the silence by warning them of events that will happen, "Dr. Whitewood will come for you next, asking questions" "We'll stick up for you!" Tom says. "No! Just say you were conned too. Say you thought we kept wolves" "that's a betrayal Mads!" Shannon tells Maddy. "It'll keep you safe, safer. And we'll be safer. Just promise you do'll that? And always remember, no matter where we are, no matter where you go, we'll always be part of a pack," Maddy slowly walks up to Shannon and starts pulling on her jacket where her heart is. "In here" Shan nods her head and gives Maddy and heart-warming hug. They both began crying and let go of each other. Maddy walks away from Shan and back towards Rhydian. She looks down and then in his eyes. "What a day this turned out to be" Rhydian says. They both hide their mixed emotions with a laugh. Maddy stares into his eyes and says what she has wanted to say for a long time, "I love you..." Rhydian looks into her eyes surprised for a moment but then walks into her pressing his lips to hers. They share a very passionate kiss that doesn't last very long. "I love you too" Maddy presses her face into Rhydians chest and begins crying. "One day, when im older and nobody cares what I do, I will find you my Maddy. I will find you" Rhydians voice cracks at the end and he begins to cry. Maddy pulls away from their hug and looks into his eyes again and for the last time for a long time. "We'll find each other" She says before she turns away to meet her parents at the other side of the hill, going away from Stoneybridge. Tom, Shannon, and Rhydian form a group hug until Tom looks up and sees Maddy and her parents in wolf form. "Look" he says Rhydian and Shan look in their direction waiting for something to happen. All of a sudden they begin howling at the moon. Tom, Shan, and Rhydian also begin howling. They all stop and see Maddys parents leave while Maddy looks at her best friends and boyfriend for the last time and then she follows her parents, not able to look back.
