The training was brutal, as per usual, Allura seemed to enjoy pushing the paladins farther than they could go, and at the end of it all Team Voltron sat down to eat dinner. Prepared by Coran. Also as per usual.

Lance was more closed off tonight, Keith noticed, he didn't make as many jokes or go off on mindless stories. Lance was definitely more reserved, and Hunk was sitting abnormally close to the Blue paladin.

Keith knew Hunk and Lance had been room-mates back at the Garrison, and Hunk probably knew more about Lance than anyone else here, but it still seemed odd to Keith. Hunk and Shiro both tried to make conversation but it was really in vain.

After dinner, Hunk escorted Lance to his room, Pidge following close behind. Lance dropped down onto his bed once they made it in, and the Blue paladin curled up into a ball and started sobbing, tears trailing down his face.

Hunk instantly sat down beside his brother and pulled him against his chest, listening to the sobbing slowly die down, whispering words of 'it's ok' and 'we'll be home soon' to his friend. When it was finally over, Lance began to speak.

"Why... Why is it so far away? Why is it only alien metal separating us from oblivion? We're in the middle of space, and by the time we get home everyone could be dead! Our families and.... and I never told my sister I was sorry for missing her birthday, and my dad still thinks that I wasn't trying hard enough and-"

"Lance, calm down," Pidge said placing her hand on the angsty teen's shoulder. "When we get back to Earth, everyone will be happy to see us. We can't go back until we destroy Zarkon, and we will destroy him. It won't matter what you left behind, what will matter are the things waiting for you."

Lane smiled weakly at the girl he thought of as a little sister, "Thank you," he whispered softly.

"It'll be ok Lance," Hunk added.

"But... it's so far away... so far away," Lance said crying again.

"I know, Lance,  it hurts me too," Hunk murmured tears of his own falling down his cheeks.

"We're going to go home," Pidge promised, "After we've saved the galaxy from Zarkon, and have my dad and my brother back."

"Matt would be proud of you Pidge," Hunk told her, tears in his eyes.

"Thanks, Hunk," Pidge replied with big, sad eyes. "I know your family will be proud, too."

Hunk returned a weak smile, and cuddle his two friends. Things just had to end soon. They just had to.
