"Do we have to go?"Kiah whined, balling up her tiny fists in her dress.Mom quickly parted her already gorgeously done brown hair in a hurry."Yes honey, the palaces guards would be absolutely furious if we didn't show enough respect for the ceromony to attend it."She informed, shaking her head in the pure thought of it.After her argument with Aveyla,Lilly was in no  particular mood to test her luck."So why does she wanna gain rights to go on land anyway?"Kiah exclaimed, slumping her petite shoulders over her dress."I already go once a year and that's ENOUGH."Mom sighed, smoothing Kiah's hair in front of the small dust caked mirror.Kiah had never raved on and on about the land's lovely sights and views, but it all in all didn't seem like such a repulsive place to live. But her words were just another painful reminder that Lilly didn't possess the extraordinary abilities that those around her did.Aveyla with her fierce skill to control the objects around her with only mere words!Or her sister's ability to soak up the ocean's sweet tender water and still inhale the Earth's!Despite her mother and Aveyla's kindness, she felt useless to her kind. While others were able to hear waters and gather supplies from land greatly needed for their survival, she was good for roaming the shops and acting as if she belonged. This ceromony wouldn't change anything! If she was chosen,it would only be a chance to prove that putting her up to a task she couldn't do could destruct a kingdom they had built to protect. And there was no saying in what anyone else's actions could cause.
"Lilly dear, are you almost ready?"Her mother's voice sliced through her thoughts, letting her escape from them.Lilly brushed off whatever was on her dress and quickly ran her fingers through her hair."Yeah,I'm just fixing my hair."She called back, flicking her tail down the narrow hall. She swept herself into the dim lighted living room and hauled to a stop.Dust flew from the ground and spread in the water like mist.Mom let out a hacking cough."Lil,how many times have a told you not to do that in the house?"She scolded, waving away the dust in front of her with her hand.Lilly quickly raised her tail away from the sand scattered floor a shrugged apologetically."Sorry 'bout that."She said, chewing her lip.Kiah scrambled from mother's arms and swam over to Lilly."You look like a princess!"The little girl gushed, staring in awe at her slightly stained blue dress.Lilly laughed,"Thankyou."She replied, tucking Kiah's wavy brown hair behind her ears. She couldn't help but rejoice in her sister's light hearted enthusiasm. She'd give anything to live a life with those who carried optimism and had no worries of the future. Those who loved with no doubts of getting some in return. That kind of loyal and courageous mind was usually found in the youthful ones. The ones that didn't know the world or still had hope for it.
Mom lead the girls into the darkening kitchen.A few blueberries, packaged sea weed, and apples were scattered in the small wooden cabinet ahead.Of course,Lilly knew not to dare touch it until lunch the next day.The family worked hard for what little they could afford, and at this rate,it was one meal a day.Never the less, they strode into the partially empty kitchen and to the rustic mirror stand that sat alone in the corner.Dust caked the top of it,and there were a few visible scratches, but still do able.
Lilly ran the edge of her finger across its rough surface, the dust piling on her nail as she continued.Once her image was visible, she released her hand from the mirror's surface. Her tan, ordinary reflection stared at her from the other side. Her dark straight hair lingering beneath her shoulders in exact motion. She raised a hand to the mirror and stared into her own eyes. She wanted to see proof that this was her! That there wasn't some other different world out there with her on it.A Lilly with different thoughts and feelings,a Lilly who didn't know who she was.Maybe the other assumed that Lilly was some incredible hero seeking a chance.A chance to find out what she could do.If there was anything anyway.Would the other Lilly stand for a kingdom with no fear?Or would she simply assume that the other would?Lilly met her eyes again.Si they weren't that different at all,not really anyways.
Mom broke the spreading silence with a short sigh."As much as I do enjoy gazing at my two wonderful little girls,we must be on our way."She said, ushering them out of the kitchen and to the door."Are you ready?"She asked, her eyes painted with joy.Lilly nodded."Yes,yes I am."And she swam, swam to what would change her life forever.
