The Start Of It All

I threw on a maroon sweater and pulled on a pair of black leggings before rushing to the bathroom. I brushed back my hair and tied it into a bun. Then I started on my makeup. How could I have slept in?

Honk-Honk! Scarlett's horn shrieked. "Coming!" I yelled out the window. I grabbed a pair of silver hoop earrings and ran down the stairs.

"Bye mom!" I said slipping on my tan UGGs.

"What about your breakfast, Kenzie?" She called back. I cringed at the word Kenzie. Last summer I decided that Kenzie was too childish of a nickname and decided that I would go by Mac instead. But I never really told my mom and dad, or little sister.

"She's probably going on a diet for some unknown reason again," Jay, my older brother, joked.

"Shut up, Jay!" I snapped. Don't worry mom, Scar is taking us to Starbucks."

"Okay sweetie, have a good day." She replied.

"Kay, you too!" I said sweetly rushing out out the door with all of my things. As I tossed my stuff into my purse I saw Addie in the front seat chatting with Scarlett. I stopped i my tracks. Addie knew that Monday was MY day to ride shotgun. I then shook my head and brushed the thought off. Addie probably just forgot. I can sit in the front tomorrow. I hopped in the back and slammed the door shut, buckling my seat belt.

"Hey, take it easy back there. You know I just got this baby over the summer," Scarlett warned referring to her car.

"Sorry," I mumbled back as I put on my hoop earrings.

"Chill," She chuckled. "I guess someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today." She chuckled looking at me through the mirror.

"Yeah, no kidding," Addie agreed. "Off to Starbucks we go!"

"What are you guys getting?" Scar asked, "I can go in."

"No, it's okay, I'll go." I protested. "What do you want?"

"Pumpkin spice, extra foam and caramel." Addie ordered.

"Medium Caramel Latte," Scarlett said. "The use."

"Kay," I replied. "Brb." I  stepped out of the car and walked into the coffee shop. Then I ordered and came back with the drinks. I handed them out to everyone and took a bite of my bagel.

"There's no caramel on mine!" Addie complained. Scar and I just rolled our eyes as we started towards school. We arrived at school and threw out out finished drinks. Then Addie and Scar began talking about some sale going on at Forever 21. I began to space out, thinking about...

"Earth to Mac!" Scarlett said snapping her fingers in my face.

"What? I said startled.

"We're skipping, want to come?" Addie suggested as if she never really meant for me to come. "Scar and I want to go on a shopping spree."

"Skip? You mean like ditch school?" I tried to confirm, which was pretty stupid because we had done it many times before. They both nodded their heads. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Addie roll her eyes.

"I can't..." I began. "I have an U.S.H. test today. And it's worth like half of my grade."

"U.S.H.? What does that even mean?" Addie asked as she checked her Instagram

"U.S. History, duh." Scar teased. "I thought you would know that, Addison."

"Well, I mean no one says that anymore." She huffed.

"Actually, everyone says that." I corrected her rather sassily, then sashayed away to my first period class, clutching my books to my chest. I knew their eyes were following down the hallway, but I couldn't care less.

I didn't see Scarlett during 2nd period. I knew that they had skipped without me.
