A Wonderful Proposal (One Shot Story)

Mimi's POV:

Today is our 7th anniversary of my boyfriend, Rex. I decided to wake up early so I can prepare for a surprise for him tonight .

We were in college when we first met. I was 18 and he was 19 that time. We are almost a perfect couple according to our friends.

And tonight I'm going to give him a surprise romantic dinner. Before I'll start preparing for the ingredients, I decided to call him.

Ring. Ring. Ring.

A few seconds and Rex answered the call.

"Hi baby!", Rex said.

I smiled. "Hi baby! Happy anniversary. Mwah!"

"Happy anniversary,too."

"I have a surprise for you tonight. Meet me here in my house"

Rex on the other line got silent. "Ahm, baby I would love to. But my boss called us for a meeting. Can I have the surprise tomorrow?"

And my smile fades away. It took me one whole day yesterday to think how to surprise him but he can't come.

"But baby, today is our anniversary", I wanted to cry right at this very moment.

"I know baby, I know. Promise I'll make it up to you tomorrow, okay? Bye for now. My boss is here", and Rex ended the call.

My tears fall down. But I can't blame him. He has work tonight. I understand my boyfriend. But that feeling being ignored on that very important day is there.

I called my best friend. I need  someone to cry on.

"Mim's? You called?", I heard Anna answering my call. Then I cried.

"Anna....", I said while crying.

"Why? What happened?"

I know Anna is worrying right now.

"It's our anniversary today but Rex is so busy"

"Sorry to hear that. What makes him busy?"

" He said their boss called for a meeting tonight. I wanted to surprise him for a dinner but he can't come"

"Oh, Mim's.. I'm really sorry. Don't cry. How about this, let's go out tonight. Let's have fun!"

Then I wipe my tears. It's actually a good idea. So I won't get depressed about Rex.

"Okay, Anna.. Let's also call the other girls", I said referring to our other friends.

"Sure!", Anna said and she sounded too excited.

I ended the call and went to my room. Since Rex won't come and celebrate our anniversary, well, I am going to celebrate it with my friends.

REX POV:

A moment ago, my girlfriend Mimi called. It's our anniversary today and I'm preparing for my biggest surprise for her. I know she's upset when I turned down her surprise and said that I have a meeting with my boss.

But what I am going to give her tonight will surely surprise her. I know she already called her best friend Anna.

One month ago, I contacted our friends and our family without her knowing. I told them about my plan and they gave me the blessing. Anna already told me that my girlfriend called her. They talked and Mimi accepted the plan of going out. So this is it.

I'm too nervous. But I know this will be a success! And I took a glance on the small box I am holding right now and smiled.

MIMI's POV:

Anna is finally here. But I got confused when she told she's going to put blindfold on me.

"Why?", I ask her but she smiled.

"Hmm secret. Don't try to argue. It will ruin tonight's show. Hehehe", she said and there she puts the blindfold.

"This is ridiculous! Are you planning on something?", I ask while she is guiding me to the car.

"No. Just relax, okay?", she answered.

Then she's starting to drive.

I know there is something wrong. Anna wouldn't let me to talk. She's listening to a song again and again.

So as long as I live I love you
Will have and hold you

And from now til my very last breath
This day I'll cherish

Tonight

Yeah, I admit the song is beautiful. But I just can't understand why she keeps playing the song.

After a few minutes , she stopped driving.

"Here we are! But don't remove the blindfold yet. I'll just hold you. Okay?", Anna said.

"Oh, geez! Can you stop making me confuse? "

"Relax, okay! Hehehehe"

Then when we started to walk, I hear the song again. This time it's a different voice. And the voice is so familiar to me. My heart is starting to beat faster and my throat is hurting that I wanted to cry.

REX POV:

Not sure if you know this
But when we first met
I got so nervous I couldn't speak
In that very moment
I found the one and
My life had found its missing piece

I'm actually shaking while singing this song. I don't have a beautiful voice. But seeing the girl that I love right at this very moment makes me feel I own the world and that I have the most beautiful voice.

Our friends and family are present. I know they are happy that finally I will be able to propose to Mimi.

I give the signal to Anna to remove the blindfold from Mimi's eyes.

She's shock and started crying. Especially when she noticed that all of her love ones are there.

MIMI'S POV:

I was so surprised when Anna removed the blindfold. Without a warning my tears fall down. The man that I love so much is now in front of me.

I smiled. So all this time, he lied that he will be having a meeting tonight. Originally, I was the one who wanted to give him a surprise.

He stopped singing. And without a word , he knelt down and showed me a ring inside the box.

"Baby, I'm so sorry for making you upset this morning. Sorry I lied. I wanted to give you a surprise. And this is it. Baby, will you marry me?", Rex said.

I wipe my tears and I said yes.

"Yes, baby. I will!", I answered.

He put the ring to my finger , stood up and then he hugged me.

I hear the crowd clapping. My best friend Anna is crying too. I know she's happy.

Without a word, Rex kissed me. And I kissed him back.

"I love you baby, my future wife", then he said.

"I love you too, my future husband."

Then we kissed again.
