I don't get why everyone is so excited about this supermoon. The only difference between this moon and any other full moon is that this one is going to look a bit bigger.
I'm on my way to the bus stop when I get this message with a link to yet another article about the supermoon. The article looks like all the other articles I've read about the supermoon. Except this one is from a website about magic and myths. As I keep reading I come across a sentence that says this supermoon will have the ability to give a chosen few powers. And how the "Chosen" will change the world. The article doesn't say if they're going to change it for the better or for the worst.
I'm always the first one to the bus stop because I get to have a little alone time. It's hard for me to get any time alone because I live in a foster home. I know what you're thinking but it's honestly not that bad, I get a roof over my head and food to eat and that's way more than some people have. The only thing is that I never get anytime alone because my foster parents are always working and I'm the oldest. My foster mom is busy taking care of the toddlers and my foster dad has a job so I'm stuck helping with the kids that go to school. So yeah that doesn't really give me anytime for myself.
The only reason I get to have some time to myself as I wait for the bus is because I'm quite a bit older than the other kids. I'm 16 and all the other kids are still in elementary school, which is good for them because they have a better chance at getting adopted than I do.
Anyways enough of the sad talk back to me waiting at the bus stop. It takes a few minutes but little by little people from school, that take the bus, start to show up. Most ignore me but the popular girls never miss a chance to throw me a mean look. Finally the bus arrives and we get to school a few minutes later.
I try to be the first one out if the bus but sometimes it's better for me to be last and sadly today was one of the days I should have been last because right as I'm about to take a step away from the bus one of the jocks that wait for the popular girls trips me and sends me straight onto a puddle. I turn my head to see who tripped me and of course it's none other than Shawn's bests friend, Carter. I start to looks aways when my eyes meet Shawn's. When I notice he's looking at me with pity I quickly look away and try to get up without getting the rest of my clothes too wet and for the first time today the world has mercy on me and I only get the knees of my jeans and the sleeves of my shirt wet. Once I'm up I walk as fast as I can inside the school and to a bathroom to try to get my clothes dry.
As I'm about to leave the bathroom with my clothes semi-dry the world turns yet again against me and the popular girls walk in. As their walking in they push me in to the bathroom again. The leader of the popular group is the head cheerleader, Samantha. Samantha starts to walk towards me and I start to take steps back. My back hits the wall and I have nowhere to go but Samantha keeps walking until she's face to face with me.
"Hey, reject. Saw you take a little tumble out of the bus," she says with a bit of laughter in her voice.
"Yeah, thanks to your friend Carter."
"He's the best. Anyways just wanted to add a little something to your outfit," she says while her friend Ally hands her a milk shake.
"What are yo-," I'm cut off before I can finish my sentence because Samantha took the lid off her cup and pours the milkshake down the front of my shirt. As I'm looking down at my shirt in shock Samantha and her groupies walk out of the bathroom in laughter. It takes me a while but I finally remember I was smart enough to pack an extra outfit in my backpack this morning.
The five minute warning bell rings as I'm tying my shoes. As I'm running to homeroom so as not to be late I bump into a wall and start to fall back when I feel someone catch me. I look up and find that it wasn't a wall I bumped into, it was Shawn, the quarterback. He gives me his signature smile.
"In a hurry?" He asks with a bit of laughter in his words.
"Just a bit," I say shyly.
"Me too," he says with a laugh. "I guess that month of school I got last year wasn't enough to help me memorize the map of the school."
"In guess not," I say with a smile. "I better get going."
"Oh yeah. Me too," there's a little frown on his face as he looks at the time.
"Bye," we say at the same time and awkwardly walk away from each other.
Let me tell you a bit about Shawn. He moved here a month before school ended last year, freshman year. He's quarterback of the football team because he was able to make friends with Carter and also because the then quarterback was graduating. During the summer he went to the school's football camp and everyone saw he had a natural talent for football. At the end of the summer it was announced that he would be the new quarterback. Just like that Shawn went from being new to popular. And every girl wanted him and everyone wanted to be friends with him. The one thing people don't know is that I met Shawn first and I thought for sure we would be friends because he was here for 2 weeks before anyone noticed him. At the start of his third week here Carter and Samantha started talking to him at lunch and ever since that day me and Shawn had rarely talked. That conversation was the first one we've had this school year. To be honest though, school had only started about a month ago.
I get to homeroom right before the bell rings. I take a seat in the back row. The classroom is pretty small with only enough room for 15 kids. Mrs. Flora is a new teacher and she teaches art which is not that big here, which is why she got a small room. Mrs. Flora only had like 10 students in her homeroom. Most of them are unpopular like me but at least they have friends. Since it's still pretty early in the year kids are still getting classes switched. Most of the people getting their classes switched are the freshmen and the new students so when I saw Shawn walk in a few minutes after the bell rang I was shocked. Shawn had his homeroom with Samantha and Carter. Shawn walks to Mrs. Flora's desk and hands her a paper.
Mrs. Flora reads at the paper and looks up at us and says, "looks like we have a new student in our homeroom. You may have any seat available."
Shawn awkwardly smiles and waves to the class. As he starts to walk to a seat on the opposite side of the room our eyes meet and he gives me one of his signature smiles while he switches directions and starts walking towards one of the empty desks near me.
"Hey Ashlynn."
"Hey," I reply shyly.
"Looks like we have the same homeroom now."
"Yeah it does."
"So how was your summ-," He's cut off as Mrs. Flora starts our lesson plan for the day.
She talks about how to keep track of our homework and we go over the school handbook. She hands out a paper that we have to get signed by our parents and return it by Monday. I look over at Shawn and I'm pretty sure he missed most of what Mrs. Flora said because he was drawing half the time. I laugh a little and look back at my paper. Mrs. Flora is finished for the period and we still have 20 minutes before the bell rings so I start reading a book I had just gotten the day before. I'm packed up and ready to go about a minute before the bell rings. Shawn is still drawing so he doesn't notice everyone is packed. I start to walk towards the door and turn just as the bell rings to see Shawn jump and realize me and the rest of the class are already halfway out the door. He quickly starts packing but I don't see what he does net because I'm out the classroom and headed to my next class.
Turns out my next class is English. I sit alone in the back with empty seats to the left and right of me. Before the bell rings Shawn walks in and finds me while he's looking for a seat. When he sees I'm alone he goes to sit with me. The same happens for third period, science and fourth period, math.
I finally have a chance for myself when lunch comes around. Once the bell rings I wait for everyone to leave. As I'm turning around to head for the door I noticed that Shawn waited for me. I blush when I realize I took a really long time.
"You didn't have to wait for me." I say as I'm walking towards the door.
"I know but I wanted to," he catches up to me as we head towards the lunch room.
We reach the door and stop, "See you later." I'm halfway to the stairs when he asks where I'm going. As I'm getting to the corner of the hall I turn and smirk as I say, "Wouldn't you like to know." Before he can say anything else I'm gone.
I head to the back of the library so I can eat my lunch in peace. I had packed a sandwich, chips, and a juice. I finished some homework while I ate. After lunch I only had 2 more classes. Thankfully Shawn isn't in my classes. Don't get me wrong I like that there's at least someone who wants to hang out with me. It's just that I don't want this to be used to make fun of me. I don't want people to make fun of me because the believe he's only talking to me out of pity. I don't want them to ruin the one ray of sunshine I have in my life right now.
After school I hurry to catch the bus. Once I'm home the my foster parents ask me to help them with the kids. I check their homework and make them dinner. And after I make sure that everything is clean again I am finally able to go finish the rest of my homework.
It's midnight when I finally finish. I'm laying down on my bed staring out the window when I notice the moon. It's so big and beautiful. As I'm staring at the moon I feel this energy going to from the moon to me. I'm still looking at the moon when a flash of blue appears. I don't know what it was about the blue light but seeing it made me fall instantly asleep.~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•
