I sat infront of a wooden table, my hands clutching the splintery wood exitedly. My little legs barely grazed the soft grass below my feet, and i beamed up at my parents. It was a crispy autumn evening, the tree's swaying lightly in the wind and the red, orange, and yellow leaves falling around me. It was my 6th birthday, and not even the cold nipping at my bare arms and legs could stop me from smiling. My name is Maggie Winstanely. I was 6 years old at the time. I had a brother named Nick, who was 8 at the time. I had two wonderful parents and i lived in an average sized home. I had an adorable little teddy bear who was sitting beside me, and his name was Curly. His name was obvious, since he had curly brown 'fur' and big brown eyes. I always thought of naming him Fawn, but then i realized that was too girl.
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to youm happy birthday dear Maggie! Happy birthday to you!" My family sang cheerily as they set a cake in front of me. I squeeled excitedly. The cake was a beautiful white, the edges ringed with icing roses my mother had made. Written in red icing, my favorite color, were the words, "Happy Birthday Maggie!"
I smiled up at my family. First, i gazed at my mother. I loved her with all my heart. She was young looking, early 30's, with long brown hair that reached the small of her back. Her eyes were a marvelous gray and i always wondered how such a bland color could look so sparkly. I then looked at my father. His name was David, and he had short brown hair. His eyes were bright blue and he had a beer gut. I still loved him though, he was amazingly funny. My gaze finally fell on my big brother. For once, he was smiling. His ocean blue eyes sparkled and his short black hair was spiked up slightly.
My mother brought out a knife from the house and cut the cake. "lets eat!" Nick cheered as he dug into his slice of cake like a dog. My parents laughed when i did the same, getting icing all over my slightly pale skin.
After we were done, my Mother directed me inside to wash up. "do you feel any bigger?" she asked me as she wet a washcloth to clean my face.
I sat on the edge of the bath tub and shook my head, causing my hair to whip my face slightly and get cake in it. "no....well, kind of" i frowned in concentration then giggled when my mother's wing reached over and tickled my shoulder.
Oh...right. Yes. Forget to tell you something. My mother is a fallen angel. Forgot to say that in her description, didn't I? Well, she is an angel. Fallen, though, meaning she was kicked out of Heaven. She has big white wings....and so does Nick. My father, well, he isn't an angel. He is a shape shifter, and so am I. This means we can turn into anything we want, anytime at all. I'm still training though, of course, and Nick hardly knows how to fly yet.
My mother bent down and cleaned my face. She picked some cake out of my brown hair and smiled at me with her kind face. "let's get back outside!" she said, taking my hand.
I giggled and nodded, running out of the house. My family and I goofed around and played party games....then my whole world changed. Forever.
