The wind howled and screamed causing the old oak's branches to knock at the windows. On top of that, the rain pounded on the windows screaming "Let me in!" Eleven year old Harper began to wake from her restless sleep because of the added noise. She tried to ignore all the outside distractions but she couldn't block it out. Hoping it would help to get something to drink, she crept down stairs to her kitchen. On her way, Harper peeked into her sister Aria's room discovering that she was still surprisingly asleep. Closing the door she continued her descent down the staircase. When she approached the bottom of the steps, Harper began to hear very faint footsteps and the opening and closing of the kitchen cabinets and drawers. The sound grew louder and louder till it was deafening to her ears. Her heart trying to beat out of her chest, Harper ran upstairs and tripped on the rug causing herself to slide, rug and all, down the wooden floored hallway slamming into the table at the end. Such force, caused the flower vase on the table to fall and shatter all over the floor. Standing up, Harper realized she had stopped right in front of her parents closed bedroom door. Confused with the coincidence, she began to reach out her shaking hand towards the doorknob. Before she could grab it, the door swung open. Inside was her parents, sound asleep, unawakened by the racket down stairs.
