The humungous waves blanketed the ship one by one, leaving no time for the men to react. Lightning struck the sea with a flash, thunder boomed following. “Man overboard!” a frantic voice aroused. “Man overboard! Man overboard!” the companions parroted, waiting impatiently for an order to be issued by the captain. The captain was a big jolly fellow, but his soft spot was for his wife. “Sorry fellas, no time to save him, we’ve got to move on. Now hoist the sail!” The crew reluctantly gave up searching for the missing person.
The next morning, the royal blue sea was at peace again. The captain stumbled out his cabin, only to face the sorrowful looks on the faces of his crew. It suddenly struck him that a fellow member had been sacrificed in yesterday’s storm and a frown lingered on his face.
“Who was it?” he asked. A moment of silence. Fidgeting crew members. He repeated his question impatiently,” Who was it?”
A brave soul stepped forward. “Your wife, captain.”
A stormy expression clouded the captain’s face. He roared and bellowed until he couldn’t hold his tears anymore. Spirits became his companion and he became a very bitter man. He was no longer the same man. He hated love. Love was a curse.
And so, when the ship came across inhabited land, he made the decision to take over the green and gold island, and form a whole new society. He brought all the men on his ship to the island, and started educating them about love.
“There are 2 kinds of love,” he said. “One is good and one is bad. The good kind is neighborly love, or friendship. This kind of love would bring out caring and kindness in people, and acts of disobedience would not be accepted. The bad one is “true love”, it brings out the bad side of people. Selfishness and greed are issued and this cannot be tolerated on the island. Therefore, if anyone does not possess the right kind of love, we will make it tradition for them to be sent off the island.”
And that is how it all started.
