Mel woke up around 2 in the morning, breathing heavily. She had had the same nightmare again.... the one where she kept revisiting the moment of her aunt's death. They had found her aunt on her friends' couch in their apartment. She had heard the news from the police that her aunt had died from a gun-shot to the head, and drug bottles lying on the floor, their contents scattered.
Mel's father was devastated. His baby sister had died, and he felt like it was all his fault. He shut himself in his room for hours on end, crying himself to sleep each night. Mel's grandparents, the parents of her aunt, visited where she lived and threw her ashes over the mountain where she loved to ski and snowboard. Mel got most of her clothes and accessories and had even found some of the drugs that her aunt had been taking. Her mother took them and burned them in the back-yard.
On top of all of that, her mother had had cancer for the past eight years. She had been trying to control her anger against the world, but only succeeded in hurting other people. Even her boyfriend was scared of her when she was feeling that the world was unfair.
Mel looked at the clock and got out of bed. Out of the comforts and warmth of the big pink blanket her dad had given to her. Her sister made a small grunt and rolled over causing Mel a fright. She had forgotten that Suzy was sleeping in her bed because of her nightmares. Her sister had talked to her about her nightmares having to involve her mother dying.
