Chapter 1

It has been a week since Niall kissed me. I still can’t believe it. I know we have been friends for years but I also know that he is dating Eva. Oh Eva, I still can’t tell if she really loves Niall or if she is just dating him because he is more famous than her. But I know, or at least I thought, that he really loved her, which is why I tried to warn him about her last week but instead of saying something he just kissed me. We haven’t talked since then and I am beginning to worry if our friendship is ruined. Niall has been my best friend for the past five years and I could not imagine living without him. The problem about him being famous is that we usually have to meet in private since I don’t really want to be followed by paparazzi. Of course Eva loves the spotlight. I just don’t understand why Niall would want to kiss me in the first place. Eva is a model and just absolutely perfect and I am just me.

Well I’ll see you guys next week to keep you updated.

(As usual, my entire blog is fiction and only based on true events. I am definitely, sadly, not friends with Niall and only do this to entertain you all. Till next Wednesday, hope you’re having an amazing week you crazy mofos.)

I update the post to my blog and turn my computer off. This whole blog thing started a few months ago and for this time I have been living a second, fictional life as Niall Horan’s best friend.

For some reason a whole lot of people started reading by posts and sending me messages saying how much they loved this story.

I was surprised myself since I only started a blog because I lost a bet with my mum. I know betting with your mum is not only really stupid but also kind of lame. I guess that’s why I wrote about a cooler version of me that was friends with Niall. I am definitely not the most popular girl in my school and actually kind of a nerd.

I pretty much only have one friend. His name is Aiden and we have known each other since kindergarten. When all the other people from my school go out drinking on the weekends we stay at home and study.

I know, super lame. But that is why I write these blogs. They make me feel better about myself and the feedback really helps me. Aiden absolutely hates One Direction but still supports me with my blog. Beside my mum, he is the only one who knows about me writing the blog. But One Direction are so important to me. They have helped me through so much with their music.

My family is not really rich since my father left me, my mum and my little brother Michael when I was about five. That’s why I study so much. My mother cannot afford o pay for my university education which is why I have to try to get a scholarship. And since this is my last year of school, so I have to study twice as much as before. But I always find time once a week to write my blog. My blog is anonymous. I never put my name underneath.

I look at my clock. It’s already 11 o’clock. I get out of my chair and crawl into bed. I should not stay up that late again.

My alarm pulls me out of my sleep and I sit up. I am already beginning to regret staying up so late last night as I rub my eyes. I open my door which squeaks every time I touch it. Annoyed I roll my eyes and walk into our tiny kitchen.

Mum has already left for work. She is a nurse at the hospital just a few minutes away and has to leave very early in the morning and Michael and I hardly ever see her since she falls straight into bed when she gets back in the evening.

“Michael! Get up! You’ll be late for school,” I yell “again.”

“You’re late Lyra.” Aiden teases me as I come running around the corner to meet him.

“Shut it Aiden! It was Michael. He didn’t hear his alarm again.”

Side by side we run to school.

First period English is usually fine considering the occasional snickers by some girls behind me. I know they are talking about me. “Nerd” and “Bore” are just a few names I get called every day. It’s hard but Aiden really helps me to get through this.

I keep saying to myself: Only four more months, only four more months.

When the bell rings I hear Skyler, the girl behind me saying to her friend: “Oh my gosh, did you read the blog again yesterday?  I can’t believe Niall hasn’t called her in a week! I thought he cared about her and I was sure he’d finally dump Eva after this and date his best friend. Gosh I hate that she doesn’t say her name. I never know what to call her.”

“But Skyler, he can’t just break up with Eva. You know the story is based on true events. As long as Niall is really still dating Eva, he will still date her in the story.”

I hear Skyler sigh. “I know. But doesn’t this all seem so real to you? All of this could really be happening and we wouldn’t even know. I know she says it’s fiction but why not?”

“Whatever, I don’t know.”

I stop, as I can’t believe what I am hearing. Skyler bumps into me.

“Watch where you’re going nerd!”

I almost laugh at the fact that Skyler is reading my blog and how ridicules of her to think what I wrote was true. Of course it wasn’t. Why would she even think such a thing? I make it very clear at the end of every post that what I write is fiction. And as if I’d actually be friends with Niall.
