Location: Washington D.C.

I'm rocking out an awesome electric guitar solo when a hand tops my shoulder. My hand hovering instinctively over the G-string I spin around. Dad holds his hands up in surrender but there is no fear in his face, unlike my other parents. "Sorry for startling you I tried calling your name," he explains as he walks over to the amp and turns it down. I Step forward but he sits down on it, making it clear I'm not changing the volume.

I sigh. "Is there a reason you're here?" I ask.

"There's quite a storm brewing out there," he says and I glance towards the window. I see the looming clouds crackling with electricity and shrink guiltily.

"I guess I got a little carried away," I admit.

"I'm not mad, just be careful next time," he says and as he moves over to hug me. He starts to leave the room but changes directions. He picks up my violin that was sitting atop its open case. "You sure you don't want me to tune it?" He asks playfully, as he reaches for a tuning peg.

"Nooooooo" I shriek as I lunge for him. "I'll get it, I'll figure out how to tune it," I say.

"-eventually," he adds with a grin before setting the violin down. He leaves the room and I pick up the guitar again, ready to fix my mess. After Dad leaves I pick up the electric guitar again and start playing a softer tune. The electricity from the clouds flows through the guitar and into me. I shiver at the sheer amount of energy I'm absorbing and sparks fly off of me. The last of the energy flows into me and the clouds dissipate leaving behind a sunny sky. "Delany time for dinner!" I hear my Dad yell.

"Coming!" I yell back. I put my guitar on its start, put my violin away and turn off the lights. Well more of shock it off because I'm still charged, this is going to be so much fun. I close the door and head to the kitchen.

"Hey can you stir while I grab the plates," he says and I head towards him and the fire underneath the pan instantly draws closer to me. "Wait, scratch that, I keep forgetting that you can control fire can you get the plates instead?" I giggle and move towards him to touch his shoulder.

"I can also control electricity," I say mischievously then touch his shoulder. A small amount of electricity flows from me and into him, making his shaggy hair stand on end.

"Delany," he groans as he turns to face me. One look at his face and I burst out laughing. After I had finally calmed down he glares at me and I sigh. "I know, I know, I'll dissipate it," I say and pull out drumsticks from my pocket. I open up the pan cabinet and bend down to use them as "drums." As I play the earth below me absorbs the energy from my body. I sigh with relief as my muscles relax and stop playing. I look up from my racket to see Dad humming away while he cooks, he must've turned his hearing aid off.

Standing I reach for the plates and pull two from the cabinet. Dad and I alternate between cooking. The meals are often simple, pulled out of a cookbook and used one or twice before forgotten. I placed the plates on the small table in the middle of the kitchen. Dad twists the little plastic knob in his ear and speaks, "How's the violin going?"

"ehh, I found a cricket today! I listened to it for a while before I tried to copy it but the violin is still out of tune so it sounded like crap." I pause and take a breath in. "I just don't get it! I can tune every instrument in the shop but the violin!" I breathe out through clenched teeth and start to calm down.

"You could always just let me tune it," Dad says.

"And get out the easy way? Nope, I'll figure it out," I say proudly, "though if you could help me with it tomorrow it would be much appreciated," I say with a sly grin.
