Chapter 2: One Sweep

It had already been a sweep  since Karkat had made a late night visit to Nepeta's hive and gave her a young troll to care for. Nepeta now noticed why Karkat had decided to save the young troll. She had white flowing hair and weird,unnatural horns. She had just finished feeding the young troll when she heard a knock at the door. She went over to it and answered it. " Oh my gog, Karkitty your back!" Nepeta exclaimed, smiling up at him. He had gotten a bit taller, or he was still taller than her. His cloak had a few holes near the bottom and it looked like it had been through a lot. " Where have you b33n?" she asked. " LOOK I CANT STAY LONG ACTUALLY....I ONLY CAME TO CHECK UP ON HER...." he said, peeking into the house and seeing the young troll. The troll looked up at him and smiled. He smiled back, then looked at Nepeta and hugged her. ' I WISH I COULD STAY LONGER TO HEAR ABOUT HOW SHE'S BEEN....BUT THE AGENTS ARE STILL LOOKING FOR ME. THEY WEREN'T TOO HAPPY AFTER I TOOK THEIR LAST MUTANT EXPERIMENT...." he looked around, then hugged Nepeta. "....thank you...." he said in a quiet voice. " .....you have no idea how much this means to me..." he let go of her and looked her in the eyes. " Be sure she stays safe." Just as he was leaving, Nepeta quickly asked, " Could I purrhaps get some help furom a few people......its a bit hard caring fur a grub by myself"  Karkat considered this carefully then said, " SURE ITS FINE. BE SURE ITS ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN KEEP SECRETS. NO VRISKA OR GAMZEE GOT IT?"  " got it" she said. This news made her happy. Equius had been trying to arrange pale dates together, mostly to talk about feelings and such, but Nepeta had to decline and make up excuse after excuse. She knew the blue blood was very suspicious and was quite surprised that he hadn't done something drastic like making a surprise visit or something. Finally she could tell him about how she was helping Karkat protect a young troll whos life could have ended a sweep age but look where she was now.....actually now that she thought about it she had no idea what this trolls name was. Later, she thought to herself. Right now, she needed to contact Equius. She messaged him. " hey equius!" she sent " Ah. Nepeta, do you now wish to meet after a sweep? Speaking of which, what has had you so preoccupied?" Ok there were the questions hes been asking, at least this time you can answer him. " Ok just come over to my hive and ill explain everything ok?" she asked. "Sure. I will be there momentarily." A few minutes later, a knock was heard. She opened ot and there stood Equius. " aw come in come in!" Nepeta said, happy to finally see her moirail after a sweep. " You have changed quite a bit since we last spoke Nepeta." He was right. Her hair was slightly longer and her blue hat was a bit dirty, the young troll loved to play with it often. " Equius s33 that troll over there" Nepeta said, pointing to the troll currently playing with some toys Nepeta had. Cat toys of course. " Why yes. She seems....different Nepeta." " Well that's beclaws she is" Then she began to explain to Equius what happened the night Karkat brought her and how she had b33n caring for her for an entire sweep since then. ".....and I told you now claws I wasn't sure if karkitty wanted me to tell anyone. but befur he left I asked and he said people who could be trusted so.....I told you. im sorry I had to k33p this a secret fur so long" she said and looked at the ground. She hated that she had to lie to her moirail, but she had to protect the young white blood. " I see. Considering the circumstances, I suppose it was only natural someone as, trustworthy and kind as you would keep this from me. Especially uknowing whether or not the lowblood wanted anyone to know." he said in his deep gruff voice. Nepeta smiled then asked cheerfully " then purrhaps you would like to help me take care of her?" Equius gave her a warm smile and said " But of course. This grub must be protected by a STRONG man such as myself." Nepeta giggled and said," well strong man, could you watch her while I go out and hunt fur more food?" " Yes." he said. With that Nepeta went out and hunted. before she would stick to small rabbits and such around the hive, not venturing too far  for fear of leaving the young troll alone too long. Now she could finally go and hunt much  larger beasts. She took off her long green trench coat and headed out. 20 minutes later she returned, covered in blood and holding a large beast with both her arms. " I caught dinner!" she said happily. Equius made an ' oh my' comment and began to sweat. The white blood started to giggle at Equius and Nepeta. After dinner that night, Nepeta told Equius that he would be staying with her for a while and to go back to his hive to get some things. As much as he protested this idea, he agreed and left to go get his stuff. He returned with bags full of clothes, towels....and some hoofbeats posters. " oh NO. Equius you are NOT putting those up in my hive!" Nepeta said when she saw him trying to hang one. " But Nepeta, hoofbeats are so majestic and STRONG. They simply must grace your dwellings." " absolutely not. take it down now. I don't want her to s33 them!" He sighed in defeat. " Fine I shall keep them for myself." he said and took it down. The young troll walked up to them and yawned. " h33h33 I guess its bed time" she picked the young troll up and carried her to her room. " Wow. You must really care for her huh Nepeta." Equius said. " well of course I like to think of her as m own child..." she said, looking at the sleeping troll. " You make a fine mother." Equius said and stood by her. " Well goodnight Equius!" Nepeta said, hugging her moirail. " Goodnight Nepeta. Sweet dreams" he said, hugging her lightly so as not to hurt her.
