Readers POV;
Colorful umbrellas flooded the slick puddle-infested streets I was walking on. Rain shot down from the gray cloudy sky , hitting people below like bullets. My cat, (C/N), was cuddled into the left side of my blue raincoat. I honestly didn't know where I was going. Just somewhere else from where I was before. Nobody really stopped to talk or even notice me on the flooded streets. Nobody really cares now anyway. Nobody really did. I still walked on, hot tears soaking my face. It was hard to tel my teas from the rain from above. I gritted my teeth, trying to stop from crying, but my negative thoughts were consuming me like a huge monster. Why did I do this?! What am I?! I have nowhere to go. No friends. No family. Just a suitcase and my cat.
'I'm just a worthless piece of junk' I thought to myself. The thought ached in my head. 'A worthless piece of-'
"Meow!" The sound of a cat snapped me back to reality and away from my thoughts. I looked down at my calico kitten (C/N), but he was sleeping. Where did that Meow come from?
"Meow!" There it is again! I turned my head to look for the source of the noise. My eyes finally laid on a beautiful tabby cat across the street. It looked at me with huge green eyes.
"Meow!" It spoke again. It waved its tail as if motioning for me to follow it, so that's what I did. The cat ran like REALLY fricken fast.
"Wait!" I called. I must've seemed crazy, running after and talking to a cat. Some people looked at me with odd looks on their faces, but I didn't care. I focused on following the tabby cat. After a while, I found myself in an alley. The cat padded over to a trash bag and sat there, just kind of staring into space. I looked around. There wasn't many people around. Hell, there was like none at all! The alley wasn't very nice, but let's face it. Alleys aren't exactly 5-star hotels. I sat down against the mossy brick wall, leaning my head back and sighing.
'Maybe this is where I belong.' I thought. 'A dirty alley.' I felt an uneasy feeling, like I was being watched. I made a concerned look and brushed the feeling away. I was probably just that cat. I sighed. This was actually a good rain shelter. I suddenly noticed movement out of the corner of my eye. I turned my head to see about 3 more cats accompanying the tabby. I slightly smiled and bent down to pet a black kitten. My kitten awoke and climbed out of my coat, going over to meet the other cats. After a bit of sniffing, the cats started making affectionate mewls at each other. I started giggling. The cats went over and climbed all over me. I burst out laughing.
"Stop, that tickles!!" I shouted with joy. The cats continued playing on my legs. I wiped a tear of joy of my cheek.
"Whoever owns these cats are lucky!" I said, smiling for like the first time in forever. Just then, all the cats including my kitten (C/N), turned their heads. I took no notice of it. Then I got the uneasy feeling again. I was about to think nothing of it, but then-
"Hey." I jumped to the sound of a voice with a little "Eep!" All the stray cats ran over to the source of the noise except my cat, who snuggled back into my coat.
I turned my head and noticed with surprise a man sitting next to me. My eyes locked on the stranger. He had messy black hair and slippers. Black sweat pants with a white tripe down the side covered his legs, and he wore a purple shirt that read "DAT" on it in bold blue letters. His tired-looking eyes were narrow and brown, with almost catlike pupils. A cough mask covered his mouth. He was young, maybe somewhere around 22 years old. I was 20 myself, so I could tell by his appearance he was a bit older than me.I just stared at him. He stared back.
"You like the cats?" He said in a tired tone. His voice seemed to go with the wind as he spoke. I hesitated before answering.
"Y-yes..." I said shakily. The man made 'tsk' sound.
"You don't have to act so scared." He grunted sullenly, no emotion on his face.
"S-sorry!" I apologized nervously.
"I didn't mean to offend you!"
"Oh it's alright," the man said. "I get that a lot. Usually they run away."
"Whose 'they'?" I asked
"People."
"Why don't you stop them?"
"I don't care." He said.
I looked down at my feet, blushing. I've never really had a civilized conversation with anyone before. I'm socially awkward.
Suddenly, I felt movement in my coat, and (C/N) crawled out to the man. He looked at me, and then the cat, then at me again.
"Mind if I pet your cat?" He asked.
"Sure!"
The man grunted then turned his attention to (C/N). He started stroking her fur and she immediately started purring. I admired his skill.
"She likes you." I giggled.
"Mm."
After long a moment of sitting, I started feeling a bit woozy and cold. I started coughing and sneezing. The stranger turned my way.
"You okay?" He coldly asked.
"Mm-mm." I lied. I suddenly had a coughing fit, and everything went black. I could only hear the man go 'hmph' and feel something warm, then I couldn't hear or feel anything at all.
