I woke up early the next morning. I was awoken by the faint sound of shuffling. I opened my eyes to see the faint light of a lantern next to my bedside. There was a woman, about my age, standing, and looking at me wearing a nurse's uniform. I could only describe her face as the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. " How are you feeling?" Lovestruck, I replied, " UmUmUm I'm doing just fine.". " Okay, because for someone with their leg chopped off, you seem pretty calm"."Now go back to sleep now". I did, and I didn't have another care in the world except her until the morning.
I woke up to the smell of hot porrige next to my bedside. Noticing then that I hadn't eaten since that day at the fort a couple of days ago. When the docter stopped by, I asked him if he knew the nurse's name. He said no, he didn't, and he would have to check his list to find out. After finishing breakfast, I hopped out of bed, and began looking for her. First, I checked the nurses' quarters. She wasn't there, and I then started to go to the kitchen. I saw her in the medicinal room, getting medicine for another patient. " Oh hi!"she said. "How are you feeling?". " Just fine, and thank you for checking on me". " No problem, its just my job". " Okay, see you later". As I was walking, I remembered that I forgot to ask her name. Then, the commander stopped me in the hallway. He said, " Soldier, you will jow be serving in the army of Virginia". As he walked away, dumbfounded, I thought, well great, I'm now in another army, I guess, I was probably put in it for abandonment. As I thought this, I started walking down the hallway, walking into my own new fate.
