(Y/N) pulled out her cellphone, scrolled through her contacts and pressed the name My Love, which represented her boyfriend Justin. It was late at night for the time zone he was in, but she hoped he would still be awake. She typed out her message and sent it.
"Hey baby. Are you awake?"
It took a few minutes but he finally responded back.
"Barely."
"Did your concert go well?"
"Yeah."
(Y/N) thought it was a little odd that he was only responding with one word, but maybe he was just tired.
"I got a surprise for you."
"What?"
"I wanted to wait till you got back but I'm so excited I can't wait."
"K."
"I really hope you like it."
"K."
His blunt answers were now becoming a concern to her.
"Is something wrong?"
He didn't respond as quickly, which caused her to worry. It was a full five minutes before she heard the message tone.
"Sleepy."
She was relieved knowing he was just sleepy.
"I'll let you sleep. My surprise can wait two more days until I see you."
"GN," was his last message.
Even though he said he was sleepy, she had an uneasy feeling. He had never ended their texts or phone calls without saying he loved her.
The day had finally come. (Y/N) expected Justin to come through the door any minute. It had been hard to not think about their last conversation. But she would see him today and her questions would be answered.
There was a knock on the door. (Y/N) jumped up from the couch and rushed to it. She yanked it open to see Justin standing before her. She threw her arms around him.
"I've missed you so much," she said, squeezing him tightly.
He returned her hug, but with much less enthusiasm. She was so excited to see him that she hadn't noticed. She placed several kisses on his cheek making her way to his mouth. He pulled away before she could hit her mark.
"I think I'm coming down with something."
"Okay," she responded, hiding her disappointment. "Can I get you something to drink or eat?"
"No I can't stay long," he answered, taking a few steps through the room.
Even though she couldn't spend as much time as she wanted with him, she was glad he made time to come and see her. She was use to his busy schedule and willing to deal with it to be with him.
She noticed that he began to pace the room. Which wasn't a good sign, it meant that he was stressed or had something important on his mind.
"Can I show you my surprise?" she asked, trying to distract him from his thoughts.
"What?"
"My surprise?"
"Oh yeah," he remarked, still not giving her his full attention.
She stepped closer and pulled up the sleeve on her sweater. He was immediately snapped out of his thoughts. Seeing his name in ink made his heart sink. He tilted his head back, let out a breath, and flashed his eyes closed.
It wasn't the reaction that (Y/N) expected. She stepped close to him and placed her hands upon his chest.
"Justin what is it? Do you not like it?"
He glanced down at her and took a step back.
"You shouldn't have done that," he replied, as he removed her hands.
He ran his hands through his hair and down his face. "There's a reason I came over today," he said.
Her heart pounded, afraid of what his reason might be, given his reaction. She could see him struggling to get the words out.
"Just tell me. You know you can tell me anything."
He sighed heavily. "I don't think we should see each other anymore."
A stabbing pain hit her chest. "What? No. Justin."
"I don't want to be in a relationship right now. I'm sorry."
"So for the past six months when you were in my bed telling me you loved me, was that all a lie?" she asked, her voice quivering with tears stinging at her eyes.
"No. I do love you. But not the way you want me to."
"The way I want you to? You mean the way you lead me to believe you did?" she said, with a bit of anger in her voice.
"Look. I'm sorry. I'll pay to have the tattoo removed."
With everything that was happening, she had completely forgot about the tattoo. How could she have been so foolish to believe that they would be together forever?
"I don't want your money," she stated, with tears beginning to fall. "I want you. I've always just wanted you."
"I know. It's just not the right time for us with everything that is going on with my life," he said, with sorrow.
She noticed him glance at his watch. Her time with him was up.
"Just know before you go that I will never stop loving you," she said, her face now soaked with tears.
Justin stepped to the door. "I really am sorry," were the last words she heard him say as he closed the door behind him.
She let out a cry and dropped to the floor clutching her tattooed arm. She would never have his named removed. She didn't want to forget that Justin Bieber once loved her.
