Chapter 1: Breakfast

I fluttered my eyes open and groaned. Ugh I hate mornings. I thought to myself. Just as I decided to wrench my body out of bed, my very loud  roommate Kiarra stormed into my room.

"Aright Genevieve, time to get up you've been sleeping forever" she yelled and picked up a pillow from my bed and slapped me with it.

"Mmmm" I groaned and slipped farther underneath my covers.

"Well, me and Ivy will be waiting when you come down." And with a snap of her fingers, she left the room with a puff of blue smoke and in her place was a ruffled, over the shoulder gray dress meant for me to wear.

I forced myself to get out of bed and I stood up and stretched my arms out. I pulled on the dress and checked myself out in the mirror. Oh god Kiarra I thought. The dress was totally her style and looked like I was going on a yet another blind date.

The girls had been nagging me about finding a boyfriend lately, but I find it kind of hard talking to guys, mostly because I'm socially awkward, but more importantly because i"m not exactly considered normal

I'm Genevieve Nightlace, and my life is more than confusing. My friends and I all have supernatural powers that not all normal people have, which is why we're friends, and we're such an odd group of people, that I don't think we would be if we didn't.

I have control over the element of water which is pretty sick if you ask me. But the down side is I have water running in my veins instead of blood. This means that my skin is slightly bluer than others. Most people don't really notice anymore until second or third glance, ever since I died my hair ginger to offset the blue tones, but if you look closely and pay good attention to detail, you can see the ever-flowing water under my skin.

Next there's Kiarra Shadowvale, Queen of teleportation. Of course she's no actual queen but she likes to think of herself that way. Kiarra can teleport anywhere she wants as long as she leaves something behind in her place. With a puff of blue smoke she can go to any place she thinks of.

Then there's Seraphim Youngwood. She is one of many shapeshifters. That girl can turn herself into any object she wishes. Of course there's a time limit and its only temporary but I've gotta say, turning into anything as long as you've got a rhyming phrase to go with it, you're never in trouble.

Then we have Lucia Graythorn. Although her power is invisibility, she's definitely one you wouldn't forget. She's the most understanding out of all of us, and I'm pretty sure we couldn't live without her constantly keeping us sane. Though there is times she can be crazy herself, she keeps it in check when she needs to sneak around and spy out for us.

Lastly we have the newest addition to our group, Ivy Moonblossom. She's beautiful, a redhead like me and has control over plants. We found her in the forest once crying. She had tried to reveal her powers to her parents, it didn't go well and they thought she was a freak who couldn't possibly be their daughter, so they kicked her out. She was trying to survive by making a home in the woods but her powers weren't strong enough yet, and she wasn't trained properly. We took her in and now she lives along with all of us other "freaks" or as we call ourselves, pendras.

I quickly fixed my hair into a top knot and set off for the kitchen. Once I was down the stairs I heard the other familiar hushed voice of Lucia. I opened the door to the kitchen to find Kiarra sipping a cup of coffee and talking to Lucia, who was on her phone but nodding every once in a while to let her know she was listening. Ivy was leaning against the counter waiting for her toast pop up out of the toaster.

"Mornin' Genevieve!" Ivy said and gave me a small wave. I greeted her back and walked to the coffee machine. I joined Lucia and Kiarra as I waited for the coffee to brew.
"-then he leaned in to kiss me and it was just so awkward that I teleported," Kiarra continued as I face-palmed behind her, "-and I replaced myself with a bowl of popcorn. Anyways the whole date was already a bust because he had bought tickets to a horror movie and you know how I am with scary stuff."

"Wait what...who...when was this?" I asked, sleepily stuttering over my words.

"Blind date. This weird guy named Everest. He had the looks but I'm telling you, I'm not going to be able to date a mortal. It fails every time, and it's not like there's some pendra dating site." she sighed and put her head down on the table.

"Hey Lucia didn't you have like an ex that was a pendra or something?" I asked and got up to get my coffee and brought it groggily back to my place.

"Yeah. There was this kid. He went to my high school and he asked me out. He knew I was a pendra and he helped me figure it all out." She told me and Kiarra who looked a little too interested.

"Do you know if he's single now?" Kiarra asked with wide eyes.

"No Kiarra. You cannot date my ex." Lucia stated sternly.

We both backed off because she seemed pretty mad about it. Lucia usually never got this tense, I couldn't help but wonder what had actually happened between the two that caused them to split.

Ivy had sat down sometime in the middle of the conversation to eat and she seemed to be pondering the same thing.

There was two glasses of water on the table across from me and I played with the water, splashing it back and forth between glasses and making it do loops in the air.

Just then Seraphim stormed into the room with a book in her hands. She slammed it on the table "I. HATE. THIS. AUTHOR" she proclaimed. Meanwhile the slam had startled me and continued to make me loose focus on my control of the water. Both glasses tipped over and spilled their contents on the book newly resting on the table.

I looked up to see an angry Seraphim gesturing at the mess saying, "You're paying for this."

"Oops." I muttered but she didn't look happy about it. "Well if you hated the author then didn't I do you a favor?" I continued. She gave me that glare which meant that I indeed was going to be paying for it.

"In her defense you don't have to do that every time you come into a room Sera," Kiarra said with an yeah it does happen a lot face.

"Whatever," Seraphim rolled her eyes and continued past the table and to the cabinets behind me. "Do we have any Ramen?" she asked sincerely.

     "What? It's breakfast." Kiarra insisted.

"It's never to early for Ramen." Seraphim put her earbuds in one ear only and moved her lips silently to the music. Seeing as she probably couldn't hear me, I pointed to the fridge meaning there was food in there for her. She understood and shook her head then continued to spin lazily towards the fridge. She was looking upwards and in the middle of saying "Woah, the ceiling looks like a-" when she hit the fridge with so much force it bounced her onto her butt and onto the kitchen floor.

We all bursted out into laughter while Seraphim just sat there at her own humility. After we stopped I smiled and thought to myself, this is as normal as breakfast will ever be in this apartment. I kept smiling as I raised the the coffee cup to my mouth and the bitter hot taste took over my senses and shook them awake.

Hi guys! So a long time ago I got the idea for this book and I've published it before, but wasn't satisfied and thought I'd go back and restart. I didn't have much inspiration at first but slowly the ideas came, but I never continued to write. I still didn't want to let those ideas go to waste so here I am now, finally, with some inspiration to start again. I wanted to get the first chapter right and this took a lot of editing and rewriting to get the characters perfect and exactly how I wanted them. I had wrote another story before called the Gate In The Garden but I lost all inspiration for that and I know what I wanted to happen but I had no clue how to get there so I decided to take a break. I don't know if I'll ever go back to keep writing it but as for now I'm going to be focusing on this. So if you enjoyed this please give it a vote or a comment and keep reading because there's more to come.
