Walking back from school was always the boring part of my day. The cold weather forced me to put on a scarf, I didn't like it, too similar to my mask, too close to my past. The humans passed by blissfully unaware of the killer passing them. I could smell ghouls near-by, three,no four. It was hard to tell three of them definitely ghouls the last could have passed as either human or ghoul. It was a strange smell. I passed the ally way as I could hear the muffled shouts, that's the smell I assumed, a woman for sure, and three ghouls. I guess they were hungry. I know I was. Three weeks since I'd eaten anything. Almost two years since I'd killed. God these smells made my stomach growl, begging me to just kill one.
"Hey kid, you want to join us?" A deep male voice called from the ally way as an arm pulled me down it into the shadow.
"No. No thank you." I muttered,I didn't kill.
"Awh come on." Another voice higher than the other one laughed, as dull thud someone had been kicked as the girl let out another scream, I could see her now. Her green eyes filled with fear, her curly black hair a mess. I knew her. She owned that dress shop near my apartment.
"I don't want to." I snapped ripping my eyes from her. Great if she lived she would report me to the CCG, if she didn't, then she'd be eaten.
A hand closed around my throat pinning me to a wall.
"Boss asked you very kindly if you'd like the share our meal. It's bad manners to refuse." A third voice sounded. This one shrill.
I gasped for air as I could feel my anger start to build. I had felt this way in a long time. Why was it making me this mad. I felt it my eyes changed. The iris gone replaced with the blood red and the white black as night. "Let me go." I growled.
"Jimmy drop the kid." The deep voice sounded, he must have been the Boss.
"Yes Jimmy, listen to your master." I snapped my voice changing it was now and more manic mocking. His grip tightened as I saw his Kagune sprout from his lower back. Two tails seemed to form. I was too hungry to use my Kagune even if I wanted to. This was getting out of hand.
"Jimmy!" The Boss snapped. "Drop him now."
The grip weakened as I dropped back go my feet the solid ground beneath my feet.
There was that thud again. The unnamed ghoul was kicking her. I don't know why but it clicked that anger, that hunger, my nature. I dropped my head and tensed my legs. I was quick even this hungry, I was. I shot up my head connecting with Jimmy's chin. He fell back andcrumpled up. The unnamed was quick to react his Kagune burst from his back, a spear blade forming on his arm. The tight space of the ally didn't do him any favours. He jabbed forwards, a thrust at my stomach. I ran towards it the last second dropping my whole centre of mass, I traveled straight under the blade. I twisted my body driving a fist forwards into his gut. The air blasted from his body left him stunned as I swung my body around. My heel crushing his face against a wall. I dropped back. The Boss had the girl by the throat holding her body off the ground.
"Wow, impressive for such a young ghoul. Now you must be hungry." His mouth opening towards her throat. I saw it then as her hair fell aside. Her eye wasn't human. It was a ghouls. She was a half breed.
"Wait!" I snapped.
"Oh, you've changed your mind? Well just let me take the first bite." He smiled. I could see his Kagune had formed. He had two green wings behind him both had crystallised. He was prepared for me to attack.
Why, why couldn't I let this girl die. What was going on in my head. The unnamed ghoul lay next to me. I had to be quick. I sprinted forwards ripping and chunk of his flesh from his arm and shoving it in my mouth, god I missed this taste, the hunger in me fading being replaced with a surge of power. I willed my Kagune out just in time. The two jet black wings sprouted from my back and crystallised. The deadly razors he shot deflecting harmlessly away. He didn't panic instead he threw the girl away she hit a wall and went limp. As his Kagune shot more razors all deflecting from my wings. It was time to use my secret weapon, catch him off guard. The two black tenticles burst from my lower black. Both shooting forwards. It worked, he wasn't prepared. One pierced each of his legs. He couldn't move, the shock had blown his focus. His Kagune fading back into him as he stared at me in horror.
"W...what kind of monster are you, t...to have two Kagune, you fucking cannibal!" He screamed the confidence gone from his voice. I ripped my tenticles from his legs letting him collapse. Why was I so angry? I let my Kagune fade.
"I'm no cannibal but I am a monster." I mocked. I needed to control myself. This is why I ran from my past, this is what I hated about myself. My eyes faded back to normal as I saw the girls body slowly rise and fall. She was alive. I ran to her side and checked her pulse. It was strong still. I rolled her over and scooped her up. Her curly black hair fell away from her face. Her soft features almost too perfect.
She was beautiful.
