"Eve, Eve? EVANGELINE?" I called across 5th avenue. Of course there were countless stares once I'd done so. One old man -very similar to the likes of a crabapple- muttered under his breath, "Darn kids and their silly romances..."
I shook him off (quite literally, I tried to pry his sticky paws off my shoulder as he muttered some er... choice words into my ear) then went on trying to follow Evangeline.
A minute or so later, and I found myself  quickening my pace because I couldn't dare lose her again. She was breaking into a steady jog, now a run, then a sprint. As per usual, I matched my pace to hers, thinking of my middle school cross country meets and how similar they were to this (minus  the small produce bouncing around in my pocket).
We were now awkwardly waltzing across Times Square, glancing back at each other seeing who'd bolt first. Since I had nothing else better to do, I turned the tangerine over in my palm, tossed it up, caught it, then chucked it across the busy street right at my Ex's face.
