Judgement Day
I barely ate my lunch after Mr Jameson left. I put it down to nerves but I think it had something to do with the death glares Marilyn was sending me. Because the Transformation team was coming after lunch, her evaluation was being postponed to next month. As if that wasn't bad enough, she was on the verge of being thrown out because of her consistent bad performance in class.
My appetite had disappeared, an unusual occurrence for me, and as soon as the final bell rang I felt it coming back up again. Jenna noticed how pale I had gone and ushered me out the door and into the nearest bathroom. I was violently sick and was lucky Jenna was there otherwise things could have gotten worse.
Not only was I sick, but my eyes and nose started bleeding again. She held a tissue up to my nose while I held one up to my eyes. She told Tracey to tell Mr Jameson that I was feeling nervous and need a few moments to calm myself, while Macey got some eye drops from the first aid cabinet.
After my eyes had stopped bleeding I washed my face and took off my make-up. A girl I had never met before was waiting by the bathroom door when I came out. She had light brown hair that was tied up in a messy ponytail and her side fringe was clipped behind her left ear. She was wearing a cream silk dress with a sweetheart neckline and a chiffon neck on top. Over that she wore a grey cable-knit cardigan along with a pair of low denier black tights and tan ankle boots.
She smiled broadly when she saw me. Jumping like she'd been on a sugar high she grasped my hand and shook it overenthusiastically. "You must be Clarissa, it's an absolute pleasure!"
"Same to you?" I replied, puzzled. I had no idea who this girl was yet she seemed almost overjoyed to see me.
"Oh, how silly of me, you don't know who I am do you?" she squeaked.
I shook my head.
She walked towards the stairs leading to the basement and Jenna and I followed her. "My name is Aurora Flynn also known as the Transformation guru. My job is to make sure the candidate is well prepared and to make sure their rehabilitation into the community is smooth."
"Like a PA?" said Jenna
"Of sorts," she replied smiling sweetly at Jenna before pushing her out the door and slamming it in her face. "Don't need any distractions do we?"
I waved at the closed door, hoping my friend could sense it.
The room was huge and covered in extensive medical equipment. In one corner there was an operating table and a team of surgeons, waiting anxiously for me. In the other a dressing room with an array of clothes from skirts to dresses, shorts to cardigans and enough shoes to fill a small Singapore village. Make-up tables were set up in another corner with a team of stylists chatting away, completely oblivious to my existence.
Aurora led me over to the dressing rooms where I was told to change out of my clothes. I took then off, folded them neatly and set them down on the stool. I slipped on the silk dressing gown Aurora gave me, loving the way the material felt against my skin.
I stared at my reflection in the full length mirror, realising this was the last time I was going to see myself like this. I took it all in, the colour of my eyes, the way my hair shone in the early morning light, everything. I promised myself that no-matter what I looked like afterwards, I would always remember this moment.
There was knock on the dressing room door and I opened it to reveal a beaming Aurora.
"It's time!" she said in a sing song voice.
I sighed before opening the door and following her over to the medical team. A man stepped forward and introduced himself as Dr Robins.
"I assure you, everything will go according to plan!" He said, smiling at me like I was a four year old child.
