Prologue

3 1 1

There is nothing. Nothing as far as I can see. Darkness. It has to be out there. It just has to be.
My name is Cassandra C. Cormen. The "C" stands for Cartamoa, which is the sacred society of the Foras people.
I am running.
Not from someone, but something.
Something called betrayal.
Lies.
Hate.
My whole life I have been lied to, my people, they aren't all dead. My father and I, our whole lives thought that the Foras people were dead.
Until I met a women that goes by the name Shavabova, Shav for short.
Shavabova Sue Cormen.
My mother.
Turns out that the Foras people are alive and thriving, just on the other side of the horizon. Too far to run to. But I'll make it.
Where's my father you ask?
I don't know. Heaven? Maybe Hell.
Wherever God thought that that old fool belonged. I don't even care that Aiko attacked him. He deserved it. He tried to kill my mother. Aiko knew what was right. Aiko didn't know the after affects. Aiko didn't know what she REALLY did. Aiko poisoned him "on accident" with Quith berries. Quite berries are small, green berries. They taste like melted sugar, while really they kill you.
Aiko is an Alaskan Mountain Huskey, but I don't look at her as a dog, but a sister. She's always been there for me, and has watched every single thing that I've ever done. Such as grind up Quith berries. Not that I've ever poisoned someone. Quith berries can be used to revive people, as well as destroy people.
About a year ago, my father fell unto a stake that held up out lean-to. I had to put the berry powder into the wound, which helps it heal.
I'm not a killer.
Aiko, maybe, but me, no.
