It's been the same dream every night for months now. I can't see her face but I know it's her. She invades my dreams.

Time runs on it's own length. We could die in a heartbeat but wouldn't know it. It seems that in this small town people wait for deaths. Not me. I'm different. I'm Layten Robinson.

I'm the good boy goof off. Most people would love to hang around me. Except one. Our schools mystery girl. No one knows her name or where she came from. She just shows up. We thought she wasa run away and it ended up being correct. One day the cops came and they tried to help her. But she was quick. Too quick, I've never seen anyone run so fast.

In my dream she was perfectly still all the time. Until last night the dream changed. Lighting was striking around her. 12 strikes. The last bolt hit her. I looked back and she was gone.

I can't help but feel sorry for her. Everyone picks on her and talks about the mystery girl. She doesn't seem to give a shit. She comes, stays, learns, and leaves. And now I want to know her. Figure her out and possibly become a friend. If she would just let me.

But no one has ever talked to her. I've never even heard her speak.

Everyone calls her a mute.

Fellowship Christian Athlete was over, so me and Matthew walked out of extras hall. We were in the middle of a conversation when I saw her. She was wearing black jeans with a red hoodie and black vans. I didn't know why I did what I had done next. I walked up to her ignoring Matthew's calls for me. She was reading an old beaten book titled Beautiful Creatures, looking up from her book, she stared at me with the hoodie draped over her face.

"Hi."

She looked at me like I was a phsyco.

"So is that book good?" I asked.

She chuckled slightly and whispered, "Define good."

I was shocked to say the least. Her voice was shaken like she was in a car accident. She didn't look scared but when I reached my hand out to shake hers, she got up and ran in the other direction. I watched, frozen as she sprinted in the seventh grade hall.

Well.

I walked down the eight grade hall to homeroom. I saw Matthew, Addie, Ashley, Chloe, Zoe, and Freddy. As usual Freddy is in his journal. I sat in my normal spot beside him. "Hey Freddy." Freddy looked up at me and smiled. "What are you drawing?" Freddy handed me his journal and I saw a human ripping apart it's own flesh.

"That's.. disturbing." I began flipping through the pages until he snatched the journal from me.

"Let me see." I demanded, reaching towards the black book. He shook his head.

I turn away from him, annoyed, to Matthew. Matt was wearing a scarf with girl sunglasses on and he was dancing around the room while the teacher was out. He jumped up on the desk and started to twerk. I laughed as I video taped him. He jumped off the desk as soon as we heard foot steps.

He took the scarf and sunglasses off and gave them to Addie. We all quiet down as the teacher enters the room. A few chuckles were heard around the room but we all stopped. Soon homeroom was over and it was time to go to extended learning time. (ELT) I walked off the hall and ran into the mystery girl.

"Sorry." I apologized and picked her stuff up. She scoffed at me got her stuff from me and turned. I watched her as she walked into band class. That's where I go so I'll just follow. I walked into the band room and saw Matthew with his friends and the girl was sitting alone in the corner. She had a clarinet case and was currently cleaning her instrument. I sat by Matthew but ignored him and just observed the girl.

Her hoodie was covering her face. I never got to see her face real good but she just hides it. I just want to get to know her. And possibly help her.

But maybe she's a criminal. I mean she runs from the cops after all. I wish she just wasn't so secretive. It seems she is just so hidden. She wants people to think she's a nobody. I'm the only one who seems to actually see her.

Most people would give up trying to help her the first time she rejected. Not me. I know what it's like to need help but not accepting. She just doesn't want to seem weak.

Class started and we played our instruments. In the middle of class we heard a ring.

A alarm ring.

The inter-com bursted, "Lock down. Not a drill. Lock down. Not a drill." As soon as the inter com went off all the students were freaking.

The red hoodied girl jumped up and ran over to the door. She tried to open it and the teacher tore her away from the door. She didn't give up so easily. She punched the teacher in the face and went back to the door. The teacher yelled, "Stop her!"

I reacted and ran over to her. I grabbed her and dragged her to the other side of the room. She was screaming and kicking in my grasp.

All the students started to get in corners away from the door which is now locked.

I sat with the girl in my arms. She struggled but I wouldn't let go. Then I heard pounding at the door. I didn't want to die today. For a second my heart stopped. The door bust open and there was three guys with black clothes and masks.

The girl started whimpering and I gulped as the guys came towards us.

They had guns and was pointing at me and the girl. They tried to take her from me. I held on to her for dear life. I said bravely, "You take her, you take me."

Matthew screamed, "No Layten you don't even know her!" I mouthed to him 'I'm sorry'. The guys took both of us with me never letting go of the girl. One guy punched me in the stomach. I was in pain but still not letting go. Another guy pulled out a gun. The students screamed in horror as they placed the gun to my head. I heard, "LAYTEN NO!" "LET HIM GO!" "DONT SHOOT!"

The guy huffed, "Let go now. Or else." Then I made the most stupid decision of my life.
