The Hug

I embraced her amidst the situation we're in. Her body was cold to the touch, which in return I kept her in my arms. Her soft locks swept on my cheeks so alluringly, I couldn't stop thinking how much I love her like this.

We met in our final college years. She was going to be our year's valedictorian. Not a single flaw to be seen, she was the epitome of perfect; her personality matched her beauty and smarts. She was the living embodiment of the Roman goddess Athena.

You'd think I'd be the first one to ask her out, but in reality she was the one who made the first move. We were polar opposites; she was a goddess who chose all the right and just, and I was the fool who went down the wrong path. I was that local street junkie whose mental capacity was only filled with fights and bloods.

One day, I saved her from a bunch of rival junkies. Like I said, she was a goddess, so everyone wanted her, desired her, lusted for her. She was almost to get raped as I found her clothes ripped violently and the junkies had their flies down. I only got a bleeding forehead from that fight because one of them swung his rusted pipe as a weapon, like that could scare me. But what really took me a back was her. She kept offering me to bandage up my head or let her clean it up.

After that, she kept accompanying me like a lackey. Before I knew it, I also fell for her. Many disliked our relationship -- mostly, some of them couldn't complain because I was there -- but we kept on our relationship as girlfriend and boyfriend.

I woke up from my memories from the sound of my bloody crowbar falling. My neck pained like a thousand beatings from rival junkies. But I kept embracing her in my arms. Her body was really cold to the touch... too cold.

Blood dripped from her mouth and pieces of my flesh was being chewed by her. My shoulder was radiating with so much pain but it didn't compare to how much emotional pain deep inside me felt.

Everybody around me kept walking, limping to be in fact. They kept moaning and their disfigured face was dripping with blood and flesh.

I saved her from multiple street junkies, but I couldn't save her from the undead.
